Albert’s making the most of the last of his holidays — not by putting his feet up, but by getting stuck into a bit of engine work. 🔧

Today’s lesson was all about compression and just how important it is to a small engine. Even the slightest loss of compression can cause all sorts of problems: difficult starting, poor running, lack of power and an engine that simply refuses to behave as it should.

After stripping the engine down, cleaning everything up and taking a closer look at the cylinder head and valves, Albert got to see first-hand how carbon build-up, valve sealing and the condition of the mating surfaces can all affect compression.

There’s something very satisfying about learning why an engine isn’t working rather than simply replacing parts until it does. A great way to spend the last few days of the holidays — learning, getting his hands dirty and understanding a little more about what’s actually happening inside an engine.

Not sure the workshop will ever be quite the same again. 😂🔧

🛠️ New workshop toy has arrived at SGP — and Albert is well happy with it! 😄

Our new parts-cleaning machine is already earning its keep, helping us clean components properly and efficiently before they go back into service.

It’s not just about getting parts looking like new either. This equipment helps us work smarter by using water more efficiently, reducing waste and helping lower the environmental impact of our workshop cleaning process. 🌱💧

Cleaner parts, a cleaner working environment and a more sustainable way of doing the job — exactly the kind of investment we want to keep making at SGP.

And judging by the smile, Albert definitely approves! 😂🔧

🇺🇸🇬🇧⛳ Kress Commercial robot mowers are changing the way golf courses are maintained across the U.S. and UK.

Golf clubs on both sides of the Atlantic are facing the same pressures — labour shortages, rising costs, sustainability targets, and the need to keep course presentation at the highest possible standard.

That’s where Kress Commercial robotic mowing is making a real difference.

These autonomous machines can take care of repetitive mowing across large areas, freeing skilled greenkeeping teams to focus on the work that really needs their experience and attention.

✅ Reduce time spent on repetitive mowing
✅ Make better use of skilled staff
✅ Quiet electric operation around golfers
✅ Reduce fuel use and engine emissions
✅ Deliver frequent, consistent mowing
✅ Help reduce compaction with lightweight machines
✅ Manage fleets across large areas

In the U.S., autonomous mowing can help courses manage huge acreages more efficiently.

In the UK, it can help clubs get more from smaller teams while improving consistency and reducing operating pressures.

And this is where SGP can become your partner.

SGP can help you every step of the way — from looking at your site and identifying where robotic mowing can make the biggest difference, to helping plan the fleet, set up the machines, get them working on the course and provide ongoing support afterwards.

For clubs that want a more hands-off solution, SGP can help take the pressure away and do the heavy lifting for you — helping manage the transition to autonomous mowing so your team doesn’t have to figure it all out on its own.

The aim is simple: make robotic mowing easy to adopt, easy to run and genuinely useful for your greenkeeping operation.

This isn’t about replacing greenkeepers. It’s about giving them the right tools, reducing repetitive workload and helping them spend more time on the skilled jobs that make a great golf course.

From the U.S. to the UK, the future of golf course mowing is autonomous — and SGP can help you make it happen. 🤖⛳

SOON TO BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE

Used Toro TimeCutter ZS4200T Zero-Turn Mower

This machine has only recently come into stock and, as you can see from the photos, it is in exceptionally clean condition and has done very little work.

Before we offer it for sale, it will go through our usual thorough preparation process. That includes a full service, complete inspection, lubrication of all relevant points, and full testing of the machine to make sure everything is working exactly as it should.

Even though it is very low use and presents almost like a new machine, we still go through everything properly before it leaves us. Our aim is to make sure it is fully serviced, fully checked over and ready to go.

Price is not available yet. We will confirm the price once we have completed the service and inspection and know exactly what, if anything, it requires.

A very clean, low-use Toro zero-turn mower and definitely one to keep an eye on.

Some machines come in for a repair. Others turn into a full-scale rescue job.

This Countax B255 came to us a few months ago after its owner had only recently bought it. The rear PTO belt kept coming off, it was almost impossible to steer in a straight line, and the condition simply didn’t match what they had expected from the way the machine had been described.

After trying to resolve things elsewhere without success, the question became a simple one: could it actually be saved?

Once we stripped into it, the true condition became clear.

Despite being only around three years old, we have honestly seen 15-year-old machines in better shape. The level of corrosion and wear was extreme. Virtually every bearing on the machine was worn or damaged, components were seized, the engine was loose, the steering had excessive play and was badly out of alignment, and the deck, sweeper and power grass collector all needed major attention.

At that point, it was borderline whether the machine was worth restoring at all or whether it was destined to become a breaker.

But we decided to give it a second chance.

The power grass collector and sweeper were completely stripped down. Every nut, bolt, bearing and surface was checked, cleaned, repaired or replaced as required, then everything was repainted and rebuilt.

The grass box was stripped, cleaned and refinished. The sweeper cassette had deteriorated so badly that it needed heavy-duty protective treatment, including underseal and bitumen, to help preserve it for the future.

The cutting deck was taken right back to bare metal, thoroughly cleaned, treated and repainted before being rebuilt with new blade hubs, new tensioner and idler pulleys, new belts and new rubbers. The areas most exposed to wet grass and corrosion were also given additional protective treatment.

The tractor itself received a complete transmission service, steering repairs and realignment, new belts, new pulleys and extensive mechanical work throughout. Even the transmission drive hubs were seized solid and had to be removed, cleaned, lubricated and rebuilt properly.

And that was a big part of this job — we didn’t just want to make it work again.

We wanted to rebuild it in a way that means the next person who services it can actually service it properly. Parts were cleaned, freed off, lubricated and reassembled so future maintenance should be far easier than what we were faced with.

Because of the sheer scale of the restoration, this became one of those jobs we worked through carefully alongside our day-to-day workshop commitments. Some stages simply couldn’t be rushed either, with paint and protective coatings needing proper preparation and curing time.

The end result speaks for itself.

Considering where this machine started, even we are amazed at how well it has come back.

It is a perfect example of just how much damage poor maintenance, harsh conditions and neglect can do to a machine in a very short space of time — but also what can be achieved when the time is taken to rebuild one properly.

This Countax B255 has definitely earned itself a place in our book of fame.

And Ryan… you’d better take good care of it. 😄

🔥 More Than Garden Machinery — Keeping Specialist Equipment Working When It Matters Most

Last night’s wildfire warnings were a serious reminder of just how dry conditions are at the moment. The message was simple: no barbecues, no open fires and no unnecessary ignition sources. A small flame can very quickly become something much bigger.

That also means equipment like this is currently in extremely high demand.

This Argo Conquest all-terrain amphibious vehicle, fitted with a rear firefighting and hotspot suppression system, came into SGP Garden Machinery as a priority job. It’s designed to reach areas that conventional vehicles simply can’t — across difficult terrain, soft and boggy ground, woodland and other inaccessible locations. It can also be fitted with tracks when conditions demand even greater mobility.

Its job is vital: moving from hotspot to hotspot, soaking areas down before they flare up again, while also having the capability to deal with smaller active fires when required.

The machine arrived with a running issue and was also well overdue a thorough service, so we carried out an extensive overhaul to get it reliable and back into service as quickly as possible.

Work included the main engine and fuel system, removal and overhaul of the inlet system including the manifold, sensors and injectors, servicing of the drivetrain, chains and gearboxes, and the addition of a high-pressure fuel-line filter to improve reliability.

The rear firefighting equipment was also fully serviced, including its separate pressure unit for hotspot suppression and the siphon pump. One of the auxiliary engines also required a replacement carburettor to bring it back to dependable running condition, along with several other repairs and improvements throughout the machine.

There is still a charging-system regulator on back order. The machine is charging and can be managed safely as it stands, but once the new regulator arrives it will be fitted to bring the system fully up to where we want it.

Under normal circumstances, we would keep a machine until every final part had been fitted. But this one cannot afford to sit in the workshop waiting for a back-ordered component when it is needed out there today.

That is very much what SGP Garden Machinery is about.

Yes, we are garden machinery specialists — but our work goes far beyond lawnmowers and grass-cutting equipment. We work on groundcare, estate, utility and specialist machinery too, and sometimes the equipment coming through our doors has a very different job to do.

Right now, getting this machine serviced, reliable and back into wildfire response was the priority.

Please take the current fire warnings seriously. Avoid barbecues, open fires and anything else that could create an unnecessary spark or flame. Prevention makes a huge difference — and when fires do occur, machines like this are there to reach the places ordinary vehicles simply cannot.

Back out today, doing the job it was built for.
