The famous Market Drayton 10k road race is on this Sunday, so please be aware that there will be road closures through the morning.
This is an amazing event, one of the highlights of the calendar in Drayton, and well worth walking down to take a look. The main event is on the Grove School field, literally a stone's throw from the canal, and the race day atmosphere is fantastic.

🚧 MARKET DRAYTON 10K – ROAD CLOSURES REMINDER 🚧
Sunday 10th May – Please read & share

With race day fast approaching, we want to make sure everyone in the community knows what to expect. Road closures will be in place for the safety of runners, volunteers and spectators.

👉 Full details here:
https://marketdraytonrunningclub.co.uk/road-closures/

⏰ Key Things to Know
Roads on the race route will be closed from 10:30am until around 12:30pm (once runners have safely passed).

Emergency services will ALWAYS be allowed through — they have full access at all times.

If you need to go out on Sunday morning, please leave before the closures begin to avoid delays.

Online grocery deliveries, takeaways and parcel couriers will not be able to access closed roads during this time — please update your delivery slots if needed.

Everyone is welcome to join us in the event village on the school field.

🙏 Please Be Kind to Our Marshals
Our marshals are volunteers giving up their time to keep everyone safe. They cannot change the closures or timings, they are simply following the safety plan. Please be kind.

🚗 Affected Areas
A full map can be found on this link, including estimated times where each area will reopen. We promise to keep roads closed for as short a time as possible whilst ensuring everyones safety. https://marketdraytonrunningclub.co.uk/road-closures/

💚 Thank You, Market Drayton
Your support helps us run one of the UK’s best community races.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation, it keeps the event safe and enjoyable for all.

Featuring the breach at Whitchurch

The breach of the Llangollen Canal at Whitchurch in December hit headlines around the globe. In the March issue of WW, boaters caught up in the disaster tell how they escaped with their lives. We also examine the breach’s impact on waterways-related industry and explain how the stricken boats were eventually recovered.

Away from the breach, we enjoy relaxed cruising on the 46-mile stretch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal from Wigan to Foulridge for our eight-page pull-out guide.

Elsewhere on the network, we spend time in Rickmansworth on the Grand Union, Abingdon on the Upper Thames and Bollington on the Macclesfield Canal. We also revisit the western Kennet & Avon after two decades, and take an out-of-season break on the Walsall Canal.

However, we look far beyond home waterways for our feature on the ten most memorable inland waterways experiences outside Europe – ranging from the heritage-rich Erie Canal in New York to the tropical backwaters of Kerala, India.

River cruising is very much the focus of our boat review section, as we contrast two craft that are well suited to this activity – one a Polish-built narrowboat, the other a new incarnation of a much-loved cruiser.
In our history section we explore the lost art of ‘canal hobbling’ and examine a stunning collection of images capturing working traffic on the Grand Union in the 1950s.

For today’s boaters, we round up the latest gadgets and consider what really belongs in a minimalist boater’s toolkit. We also hear from an American who has crossed the Atlantic to make a 58ft narrowboat home.

On top of this, we provide lively opinion, expert technical advice and a hard look at the realities of drink-boating legislation.
