Meet the Team: Chris Oldman, Yard and Transport Manager

Next in our Meet the Team series is Chris Oldman, our Yard and Transport Manager.

Chris joined DCS Scaffolding in 2020 and has quickly become a vital part of keeping the business running smoothly. With an ex-military background, he brings precision, organisation, and discipline to his role, ensuring our yard operations and transport logistics operate efficiently every day.

He began his journey with DCS as a labourer and 7.5 tonne wagon driver. Through hard work and commitment, he progressed to become a fully qualified scaffolder and is now an accomplished Class 2 HIAB driver. Alongside this, Chris has developed a strong understanding of transport operations and the legislative compliance that underpins them, making him ideally suited to oversee the safe and efficient movement of our equipment and vehicles.

Outside of work, Chris has a creative side that often surprises people. He volunteers with a local amateur dramatics group and a children’s performing arts organisation, working as a backstage theatre manager. From design through to construction, he plays a key role in bringing stage productions to life.

He is also a keen tap dancer and enjoys the occasional espresso martini when off duty.

Chris is a great example of dedication, versatility, and team spirit at DCS Scaffolding.

Meet the Team – Andy Nuttall, Director

Leading the team at DCS Scaffolding is our Director, Andy Nuttall. He’s known for his straight-talking approach, a great sense of humour, and a wealth of knowledge from years in the scaffolding industry. Andy sets the tone for how we run as a company.

He started out as a labourer and worked his way up through the ranks to become an Advanced Scaffolder before moving into a Contracts Manager role. Having worked at every level of the trade, Andy has a strong understanding of scaffolding, safety, and the high standards expected on every project.

Since becoming Director of DCS Scaffolding in August 2020, Andy has focused on running a tight ship and making sure every job is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the standard our clients expect. He’s always pushing for improvement and encouraging the team to take pride in the work we do.

Andy lives and breathes DCS Scaffolding… sometimes a bit too much 😂 But that dedication is what keeps the business moving forward. Even as Director, he’s never been afraid to get stuck in and jump back on the tools with the lads when needed, which earns him a lot of respect across the team.

Outside of work, if Andy manages to put his phone down for five minutes on a weekend, you’ll probably find him enjoying a pint of Guinness. He’s also a proud husband and dad who cares a lot about his family.

Andy is also a keen hunter, although he tends to do things a little differently. While most people might use dogs or ferrets, Andy took up falconry with his Harris hawk. Of course, that still wasn’t quite enough, so he went bigger and got himself a Golden Eagle. That probably sums Andy up quite well. He’s always looking to go bigger and be the best.

It was great to stop by one of our current projects at St George’s School in Blackpool. 👷‍♂️

DCS Scaffolding installed edge protection handrails around the main roof areas to ensure safe access for the ongoing solar panel installation works.

The project is progressing well, and the scaffolding is scheduled to be dismantled within the next couple of weeks.

Emily. The driving force behind DCS.

Scaffolding is often viewed as a labour intensive industry. Wagons, materials, early starts and long days on site.

What is not always seen is the operational backbone that keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

At DCS Scaffolding, that backbone is Emily.

While site teams deliver projects and management focus on clients, planning and delivery, Emily oversees the critical areas that keep the business compliant, safe and operational. These are the elements that rarely get the spotlight but are fundamental to every successful project.

- Overall Compliance
- Health and Safety Documentation
- Policies and Procedure reviews
- HR
- Audit preparation - NASC, RISQS and many more
- Accreditations and renewals

Every scaffold erected safely, on time and to specification is supported by detailed and methodical work carried out behind the scenes. That work ensures standards are met, risks are controlled and clients can have complete confidence in DCS.

A scaffolding company is only as strong as the foundations that support it. For DCS, that foundation is Emily.

This is a well deserved public thank you.

Thank you, Emily. DCS runs because you make sure it can.

Why Radcliffe is the perfect home for DCS

DCS Scaffolding is often asked why Radcliffe was chosen as the company base.

The decision was not only about location, although being minutes from the M62 and centrally positioned within the North West is a clear advantage.

Radcliffe reflects who DCS is as a business.
It is home to a strong, hardworking workforce.
It sits close to the centre of Greater Manchester’s construction sector.

It provides direct access to Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and beyond.

More importantly, Radcliffe has a sense of community that mirrors the way DCS operates.

DCS is a local company with regional reach, built on relationships, reliability and pride in the work delivered.

From refurbishments in Manchester to new build projects in Preston and reactive support across Liverpool, Radcliffe keeps DCS connected to the people, projects and places that matter most.

We are pleased to confirm that DCS Scaffolding has achieved NASC accreditation. This is a significant step forward for our company and reflects the high standards we maintain across all of our projects.

NASC accreditation is awarded only to companies that can demonstrate compliance with rigorous requirements across safety, training, insurance, and operational performance. We are incredibly proud to meet these standards and to be recognised for our commitment to professional excellence.

Thank you to our dedicated team for helping us reach this point.

We were proud to support Bury Football Club once again this year by donating our services free of charge for their annual Family Fun Day

It’s always a fantastic community event, with 100% of the money raised going straight back into regenerating the club. A brilliant cause for a club with deep roots and even deeper community spirit.

Great work by everyone involved!

A Family Legacy in Scaffolding – Celebrating Two Generations

Today we’re celebrating not only a remarkable career, but a proud family journey in the scaffolding trade. 🎉

Nick began scaffolding at the age of 16 and last week marked his 48th birthday, that’s 32 years of experience in the industry. Now a Part 2 Scaffolder with SSSTS training, Nick’s commitment and expertise have been a guiding example to many.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Ryan joined DCS at just 16 in May 2024. Now 17, Ryan is completing his apprenticeship and on track to qualify as a Part 2 Scaffolder in 18 months.

It’s great to see the trade passed from father to son, with both bringing dedication and passion to the job.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2025

At DCS Scaffolding, we know that mental health matters just as much as physical safety, and not just for one week of the year.

We make it a priority to check in with our team, not just about work, but about life in general. Whether it’s a tough day or a big milestone, be it a new baby, passing a driving test, or tying the knot, we believe those things deserve recognition and support.

We’re proud to create an environment where our staff feel they can talk openly, without judgement. For us, it’s simple: if someone’s not okay, we want to know—so we can help.

Work should be more than just clocking in and out. It should be a place where people feel seen, supported, and valued.
