There’s always plenty to come away with after The Care Show, but a few things really stuck with us this year...

One was around growth. There’s clearly a lot of opportunity in the sector, but growth only really works if providers can still invest in their people, their homes and the quality of care they’re delivering.

Another was quality. Chris Badger’s keynote was a good reminder that it can’t just live in policies and paperwork. What matters is what residents and staff actually experience every day.

Kiran Gill made a very simple point that’s probably one of the hardest to get right: know what makes your service different, then make sure people feel that difference consistently. From the very first enquiry to the everyday moments in care.

Today, we’ve turned Care Shop pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 💗

From pink jumpers to a very committed hi-vis, the team got involved to help raise awareness and show our support for everyone affected by breast cancer.

It’s a simple thing, but sometimes those little moments are a good excuse to start a conversation, check in with someone, or remind ourselves just how many people breast cancer touches.

Handwashing. One of those things we’ve all done a thousand times… and yet there are still a few little areas that are very easy to miss.

For Global Handwashing Day, we’ve put together a quick refresher for care teams on washing properly, the spots that can get overlooked, and why those extra few seconds really do matter.

Because in care, the small things often do a lot of the heavy lifting. Good hand hygiene helps protect residents, colleagues and visitors, and supports a safer care environment every day.

For World Mental Health Day, we wanted to focus on the people who spend their days looking after everyone else.

Working in care can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also ask an awful lot of people. Busy shifts, difficult conversations, constantly being there for somebody else… it all adds up.

And sometimes, support doesn’t have to be anything grand.

A proper break when you can get one. Checking in with a colleague. Speaking up when things are getting a bit much. Or simply asking someone, “Are you alright?” and actually giving them the time to answer.

Because looking after care teams matters too, not just on World Mental Health Day, but every day.

And that’s a wrap on The Care Show Birmingham!

Two really busy days, lots of familiar faces, plenty of new ones and some really interesting conversations about where the care sector is heading.

We loved sharing the stand with the Institute of Health & Social Care Management, catching up with customers and suppliers, and hearing from some brilliant speakers throughout the show.

One of the biggest things we’ll take away is just how valuable it is to get everyone in the same room. You hear what people are excited about, what they’re finding difficult and what they want to see more of from suppliers and partners.

And, of course, no Care Show would be complete without a few unexpected moments along the way… including meeting Dorothy the Dulux dog. 🐶

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, it was lovely to see you.

We’re here today and tomorrow, so if you’re at the NEC, come and say hi to us at stand G56!

We’re sharing the stand with our brilliant partners at IHSCM, and we’ve already had such a lovely day catching up with people from across the care sector.

We also popped over to see our amazing suppliers at Kimberly-Clark Professional, listened in to a really interesting panel on the future of care ownership, and of course… ran into Dorothy the Dulux dog 🐶

What a brilliant afternoon celebrating the very first Adopt a Grandparent Charity Awards.

We were so proud to sponsor the event, as well as the Grandparent of the Year award, and to spend the afternoon celebrating the people helping create meaningful companionship for older people.

One moment that really stayed with us was hearing Shaleeza Hasham, founder of Adopt a Grandparent, speak about why she started the charity and the experiences that shaped it.

Hearing the story behind the charity was such a lovely reminder of what makes Adopt a Grandparent so special. It isn’t simply about introducing two people. It’s about making sure older people feel heard, valued and connected, and creating friendships where stories, experience and a good old chat can be shared.

And then came a particularly special moment for us.

Our Managing Director, Sam Tinsley, had the pleasure of presenting the Grandparent of the Year award to the wonderful Michael.

Michael is already a familiar face to us at Care Shop. Earlier this year, he joined us at our Leadership Summit and gave us a brilliant insight into what life in a care home is really like. He had the whole room laughing then, and unsurprisingly, his awards speech did exactly the same again.

Michael never fails to make us smile, and seeing him recognised felt incredibly well deserved.

We absolutely love working with Adopt a Grandparent and seeing the friendships, conversations and moments of connection they help make possible. Yesterday was a lovely reminder of just how much difference that can make.

Congratulations to Michael, all of the award winners, Shaleeza, David Annand, and the whole Adopt a Grandparent community on a very special first awards. 💚

For Back Care Awareness Week, we wanted to shine a light on something that can be very easy to miss, especially when someone living with dementia can’t quite tell you what’s wrong.

Sometimes pain doesn’t come with the words “my back hurts.”

It might be someone moving a little differently. Struggling to get comfortable. Becoming more unsettled than usual. Or simply seeming a bit out of sorts.

And when you know someone well, those little changes can tell you an awful lot.

So this week, it’s a gentle reminder to look beyond the words. Notice what’s different for that person, follow their care plan and seek clinical advice where needed.

Because sometimes the smallest change is the first clue that something isn’t quite right.
