Statutory examinations have never been lost on me but they have never felt more relevant when we carried out a Thorough LOLER examination of a working mobile crane on site yesterday.

Fortunately this client takes a positive attitude towards statutory examinations and never allows their equipment go overdue. I have no doubt in my mind that if they did not have this attitude and this rope defect was not picked up then very soon there would have been an incident.

LOLER examinations are mandatory for a reason. This rope defect is up there with the worst defects I have come across. Good maintenance and statutory examinations protect you, your workforce and your company.

Today we had the privilege to get our hands on the big toys. We were able to step in to get this 750 tonne crane examined so that they could start their planned job after the weekend. A thoroughly enjoyable inspection on a huge piece of machinery.

We stay until the job is done. Even if that’s 7pm on a Friday evening. This self erect crane was delayed for multiple reasons but the installation team work tirelessly to get the job finished. We were present for the whole construction process, inspection as it was built to ensure a Thorough examination was carried out ready for the customer to use in Monday morning.
