Only a few seconds of the interview survived the edit, but there's some nice drone footage of Einion's Garden about 20 mins in. What I tried to convey was was that barely 5% of current Welsh agricultural produce is consumed in Wales, the rest is for export. Yet it receives 100% of agricultural subsidies. Small market gardens, up to 12 acres, do not receive ANY agricultural subsidies, yet 100% of their produce is consumed in Wales. If Welsh Government is serious about feeding its population, it should start supporting us. Another point I made was that people can choose three times a day to support sustainable, climate friendly food production, with each meal that they eat; by getting their produce from local farms and local agroecological market gardens. It does more even: it creates food resilience and greater food security. Less than a quarter of a portion of the 5 daily portions of fruit and veg we are supposed to eat to be healthy, is grown in Wales. That is not sustainable, we cannot keep relying on imports from increasingly climate struck places like Southern Spain. And another thing was that WG needs to give proper support to farmers who decide to return to mixed farming and start to grow field scale vegetables. All the funding is for large, heavy tractors and attachment, whereas what we need in Wales is smaller, more nimble equipment that can deal with the slopes, the smaller fields and entrances and is lighter on the wet, clay soils. I guess it wasn't snappy enough, heyho!
