COVID -19 AND KEY WORKER PRIORITY

Customer safety is our priority and during this worrying time. We have made changes to our service.

We ask that no-one visits our premises without phoning us first.

Secondly we are giving priority to all key workers and the elderly in our local area, we define Key workers as NHS staff , Police, Teachers & Delivery Drivers and Supermarket Staff, that are still working in essential services.

For the elderly that are self isolating we can arrange for your car to be collected & returned without any need for contact

Emergency & essential services if your workshops are unable to carry out essential servicing & repairs due to staffing issues please do contact us.

Audi 8 speed CVT 0AW Loss Of Drive

Audi A5 2009 with 88K miles, sudden loss of drive in either motion, that is forwards or backwards, there is no “8 speed” it’s just a continuously variable ratio available with pseudo steps available if you drive it on the paddles, I feel the pain of Audi owners, when they are getting quotes of 8.5K to put things right at Audi you have to ask the question, what exactly was going through the minds of the people when they priced this up.

The forward drum had mechanically failed which just on its own is over £1400 + vat, you still have the possibility off the TCM , Variators, belt, Valve body & pump etc also having issues

Loss of drive presented with 1 code and and a slight ticking noise which was more audible when reverse was selected. The variators appear to be be made by LUK and the valve body & pump is stamped LUK & Audi. The cheapest repair on one of these boxes is if the TCM has failed , which is all to common, but even that part is over a grand and vin coded , but at least you don’t have to pull the box out which is larger and heavier than the average 7.5 ton lorry gearbox. [ It took 3 of us to lift the unit back on the gearbox lifter ]

We carried out a selective repair which was more than 100% cheaper than a new box from Audi.

The featured image shows the box during rebuild you can see the variators and entrainment pump the pic below shows the failed forward drum

Initial fill for the dry gearbox is 8 Litres & separate oil for the diff, the canister filter can be changed [ end of cooler lines , you will need to remove a small bolt that clamps the coolers lines onto the top of the box ] the bigger internal filter is a gearbox apart job to change, the parking lock bolts are listed as “cheese” in the Audi catalogue, they are! we had to cut & replace. To drain the oil during a service you will need to remove a small plastic sealed insert from the drain hole.

After rebuild, all adaptions need to be cleared at 85 degrees [ Reset all adaptions ] on VCDS and then 33ft forwards pause 10 seconds and backwards until it has relearned [repeat 5 times ]

Jon's Mercedes 164 with 722.9 Tronic. [ NAG2]Typical failed input & output speed sensor failure combined with ABS sensors. It didn't really have much of chance to drive right. The electro hydraulic plate used to be called conductors in the earlier boxes say 163's and the 722.6 boxes

The combined driving experience whilst driving this prior to repair was modulating gear change as in , it wasn't quite sure what to do, Jon also reported it doing other strange things.

NAG1 types need the valvebody replacing aswell.as opposed to NAG2 & NAG3 which don't. Unless you have indicators for a valve body change.

In most cases transmissions use ABS sensors as a fail over for when the output speed sensors fail

Just a few of the possible codes

Error Code 0717 – The signal from component Y3 / 8n1 (turbine speed sensor (VGS)) is unavailable.
Error code 0718 – The component Y3 / 8n1 (turbine speed sensor (VGS)) is defective.
Error code 2767 – The signal from component Y3 / 8n2 (Internal speed sensor (VGS)) is unavailable.
Error code 2768 – The component Y3 / 8n2 (Internal speed sensor (VGS)) is defective.

The electro hydraulic plate also contains the range switch VGS and part of the immobilisation system , which makes ordering them from Mercedes less than straight forward , photo of the vin , ID , proof of ownership letter of authorisation from the owner to let us carry out the work, letter of authorisation from us, which in real terms is passing of parts liablity. etc , etc, to top things off they are SCN coded . Not really plug and play

All the parts used including the ABS were from Mercedes and special order and protected ordering , topped of with fresh oil, filter and pan gasket. again these units are ESD sensitive.

12 plate Transit 6 speed FWD jumping out of second full rebuild replacing all bearings and seals 1st gear synchro , 2nd gear synchro, 1-2 hub, 2nd gear , 2nd gear fork

It had also heavily worn out NS diff bearing almost to the stage of collapse. You can see our processes during strip, clean and rebuild luckily we have a great machine for doing the dirty parts, the rest is done on a good clean bench.

Carried out for PG Electrics in Kings Lynn :-)

[VMT6 TYPE] Cost £950 + vat

Chrysler Voyager 41TE Automatic "ULTRADRIVE"

Full rebuild , reman converter , new solenoid pack , not one of easiest boxes to get right , they have complex stack ups in the drive-train and unlike most other boxes the control is via the solenoid pack which bolts on externally and modulates pressure at and incredible amount per second. A few specialist tools required to disassemble and rebuild as in the transfer gears & low reverse assembly but we generally fabricate we what we need

pictured during rebuild and clamping down the low reverse assembly
