Fabricator / Welder Kyle Burrows has received a safety award from Adey Steel Ltd for championing the use of lone worker devices.

Kyle, who has worked for the family-owned business for almost two years, suggested introducing lone worker devices for the night shift as part of ‘Safety Month’ in April.

Following successful trials with Pick Protection, the device is now set to be rolled out by the night shift as part of the company risk management systems.

It was great to welcome so many potential to Adey Steel Ltd for our Apprenticeship Open Day.

A dozen prospective fabricator / welders, ranging in age from 16 to 34, travelled to our headquarters in to learn more about working life at the family-owned-and-managed specialist steel fabricator from Richard Greasley, Rebekah Bell, Adam Newton and the rest of the Adey Steel team.

Adey Steel Ltd are huge advocates of apprenticeships and has been running an award-winning apprenticeship programme in partnership with Leicester College for over 10 years now.

Adey Steel Ltd has welcomed a number of students from Cranfield University to its HQ in Loughborough.

The students, who are currently studying for an MSc in Welding Engineering, visited Adey Steel to use the company’s Submerged Arc Welding equipment to conduct a series of weld tests on a number of test pieces using a proven WPQR.

Every now and then a project comes along that is just that little bit different.

The Gooseholme Footbridge in Kendal is one example of this. The Adey Steel team fabricated, transported and then installed a replacement single span footbridge for use by residents of the famous market town - after the previous footbridge was washed away during Storm Desmond.

The 55-tonne bridge, which spans the River Kent, now creates a vital traffic-free link to Kendal town centre for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users.
