Kadence will be at the Car Design News People Awards 2025 on Thursday 4th December. If you’re attending — whether an old friend, client or collaborator — come and say hello. Wayne Morgan is hosting our table and can no doubt be persuaded to buy the first drink.

Suggestions for after-party drinks are more than welcome — we can think of a few familiar faces who’d appreciate the intel.

Designing for Context: The MITRA Project

As part of Kadence’s 2025 sponsored MA collaboration with Staffordshire University, Automotive design student Erki Klamas developed MITRA — an EREV light commercial vehicle concept created for India’s evolving logistics landscape.

Working alongside the Kadence team, Erki explored the design journey — from research and ideation through to precision surfacing and final visualisation.

▫The research phase focused on real-world challenges — identifying user pain points, modularity opportunities, and the local economic context.

▫In the early design stage, AI tools were used to broaden creative exploration, working in parallel with traditional sketching to establish a clear design direction.

▫During development, form, function, and feasibility were refined through NURBS modelling in Autodesk Alias, ensuring precision and intent.

▫ Finally, Erki found his passion within the process. With the help of Kadence, he taught himself Unreal Engine 5 and Twinmotion which brought the design to life within realistic environments — showcasing how colour, lighting, and materials shape perception.

At Kadence, we’re proud to support the next generation of automotive creative talent in finding what part they can play in the industry
Erki took visualisation into his heart and pushed to make it the focus of his master’s final project – stay tuned for our deep dive into the results.

🌍 Design Without Borders — Detroit Reflections

It was a milestone week for Kadence at Car Design Dialogues Detroit 2025, our first appearance in the United States as a Supporting Partner Sponsor.

We enjoyed hosting US colleagues, OEM partners, and friends from across the design community — exchanging ideas, deepening relationships, and gaining valuable insight from a world-class programme of speakers and discussions.

From leadership and collaboration to the evolving role of AI, it was clear that human creativity and global teamwork remain at the heart of great design. The discussions reinforced how design shapes not just the products we create — but the emotional experiences that connect people with mobility.

Huge thanks to the Car Design News team for a beautifully curated and insightful event.

We also took the opportunity to capture thoughts from our Head of Digital Modelling, Wayne Morgan, whose reflections on design intent and global collaboration we’ll share soon.

At Kadence, cars are our day job but everyone at our company loves boats! The Southampton International Boat Show 2025 was a great opportunity to get together with our Academic partners (look out for our next post) and have a fantastic team building event doing something different by the sea.

Walking the pontoons, viewing the cutting-edge sailing yachts and the latest marine technology, we couldn’t help but notice the parallels between yacht and automotive design. Both demanding flowing lines, precision surfaces, and a seamless balance of beauty and performance. Just as in automotive, digital surfacing is the bridge that transforms bold yacht concepts into manufacturable realities, ensuring every curve meets the highest design and technical standards.
The ability to share ideas and learn from another industry only strengthens the way we work together. We left Southampton energised by the creativity on display — and excited to keep exploring the intersections of design, innovation, and collaboration.

A big thanks to for letting us hop aboard for some team photos — the perfect way to round off a brilliant day.

The 2025 Autodesk AIF event brought together the latest in design technology, and our team at Kadence came away inspired.

From immersive VR developments to tools that streamline design workflows, the event showcased how technology continues to evolve—and how it empowers creatives to do more.

One of the highlights was seeing our Kadence-sponsored Master’s student, Erki Klamas, connect directly with industry leaders.

Erki had the opportunity to speak with the CEO of Genesis Design, gaining insight into the future of VRed and the creative process behind the AIF event’s stunning visualisations.

AI also took centre stage this year, with keynote speakers from BMW, Xiaomi, and more reinforcing how AI is becoming foundational in automotive design.

At Kadence, we see AI as a tool that supports creativity, not replaces it. While AI can accelerate workflows and enhance visualisation, it’s the designer’s imagination that drives innovation.

We believe in nurturing emerging talent and equipping the next generation of designers with the tools—and the mindset—they need to push boundaries.

Stay tuned for our upcoming post, where we’ll dive deeper into the AIF experience through the eyes of Erki Klamas, exploring the future of design visualisation.

Autodesk Innovation Forum 2025: Celebrating Innovation and Emerging Talent

Last week, Kadence had the privilege of attending the AIF event in Darmstadt, Germany—a truly inspiring experience.

Our team, including Kadence’s head of Digital Modelling-Global Operations, Wayne Morgan, Junior Designer, Michael Coyne, Kadence-sponsored Master's student Erki Klamas, and University of Staffordshire Lecturer, Richard Gilmartin, came together not just to support our talented students but also to celebrate their remarkable achievement: earning a spot among the top three finalists.

It was energising to be surrounded by so many passionate individuals and industry leaders, all dedicated to shaping the future of automotive design.

We were especially inspired by the innovative ideas on display—from NIO’s streamlined workflows to BMW’s refreshingly humorous take on AI integration during their keynote.

Events like the Autodesk Innovation Forum are a reminder of how vital it is to stay curious and connected as our industry evolves.

We’re deeply grateful to Robin Oldroyd, Victor Perez, and Pierre-Paul Andriani for their hard work in making this event such a success.

Congratulations as well to Coventry University for winning Autodesk’s inaugural University competition.

Stay tuned for more updates and insights from our team as we continue to explore what’s next in automotive design.

My First Automotive Project: Daimler Limousine (DS420)
By Wayne Morgan, Head of Digital Modelling – Global Operations

Every career has a starting point—and for me, it was the Daimler DS420 Limousine.

As a Body Engineering Apprentice at Jaguar Cars, I helped hand-build these iconic vehicles for royal households. No CAD, no digital workflows—just pure craftsmanship, guided by hand-drawn blueprints and a lot of pride.

Those early lessons in precision and teamwork have stayed with me, even now at Kadence, where technology has redefined how we bring designs to life.

🚗 What was the first car project you worked on?
