Designing for Context: The MITRA Project
As part of Kadenceâs 2025 sponsored MA collaboration with Staffordshire University, Automotive design student Erki Klamas developed MITRA â an EREV light commercial vehicle concept created for Indiaâs evolving logistics landscape.
Working alongside the Kadence team, Erki explored the design journey â from research and ideation through to precision surfacing and final visualisation.
â«ïžThe research phase focused on real-world challenges â identifying user pain points, modularity opportunities, and the local economic context.
â«ïžIn the early design stage, AI tools were used to broaden creative exploration, working in parallel with traditional sketching to establish a clear design direction.
â«ïžDuring development, form, function, and feasibility were refined through NURBS modelling in Autodesk Alias, ensuring precision and intent.
â«ïž Finally, Erki found his passion within the process. With the help of Kadence, he taught himself Unreal Engine 5 and Twinmotion which brought the design to life within realistic environments â showcasing how colour, lighting, and materials shape perception.
At Kadence, weâre proud to support the next generation of automotive creative talent in finding what part they can play in the industry
Erki took visualisation into his heart and pushed to make it the focus of his masterâs final project â stay tuned for our deep dive into the results.
