A wonderful tribute to a master of classical architecture. 🏛️

Following Quinlan Terry's well-earned retirement announcement last month, it was wonderful to see Country Life feature him in their recent August 5th edition.
The article is a fantastic celebration of one of the country's finest classical architects.
At Lambs Bricks & Stone, we have been incredibly privileged to collaborate with Quinlan over the years on some truly remarkable architectural projects across England and America. From the iconic Richmond Riverside and the Royal Hospital Chelsea—both highlighted in the feature—to one of our personal favourites, the Colonial Buildings in Williamsburg, US
It has been a privilege to help bring his timeless visions to life. We are immensely grateful to have played a small part in his extraordinary legacy. Another outstanding project completed by our Arch Works team.

This impressive 6.6-metre arch (7.2 metres overall) was preformed and pre-pointed on a steel-backed lintel using our fully washed red rubber material.

At over six and a half metres in length, manufacturing and handling presented a unique challenge, but our skilled team delivered another exceptional result. Their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to quality ensured a first-class product for our client.

We're proud to see another complex bespoke arch successfully completed.

There seems to be no limit our team are prepared to go to when carrying out site surveys.

Following this week's announcement that one of the country's finest classical architects, Quinlan Terry CBE, has decided to retire, it feels like an appropriate moment to reflect on some of the exceptional projects we have been privileged enough to work on together.

We are immensely grateful to have played a small part in helping realise his remarkable vision.

The Cadogan Estate in Chelsea, SW3 is widely renowned of as one of the most sought after postcodes to live in London.
Its rich history dates back to the 1870's when The Cadogan family began replacing older estates with arts and craft properties. This historical architectural style is known as, Queen Anne Revival.
This is a wonderful example of the craftmanship available, not only in the 19th Century, but in modern times.
A perfect example of carved panels, rope reveals and arches, along with gauged pilasters, all of which were manufactured in our fully washed TLB red rubber material and laid to a 2/3mm joint.

Three-Centred Rope Profiled Arches, manufactured and ready for delivery.
Often called a pseudo-ellipse, a three-centred arch uses three distinct radii to create a graceful, sweeping curve. Traditionally, it would require mathematical skill and knowledge to layout the voussoirs so that they radiate perfectly from their respective striking points.
In this case, Lambs surveyed the existing arch, before transferring the information onto CAD for working templates.
The existing decorative rope profile has been detailed by hand.
Manufactured in our TLB fully washed red rubber material, this is another prime example of the high quality workmanship available throughout the UK.

The International Cricket season begins today at Lords.
It seems a shame not to re-visit the replacement Museum entrance we surveyed and manufactured in 2004.
Handmade Gault material was used for the semi circular arch, reveals and pier specials.
Meeting former England captain, Mike Gatting, was a great honour, even suggesting I should stay and watch some cricket!

A beautiful transition from a torrential rainy Sussex quarry today, to the pinnacle of British garden design! The hand-carved natural stone roses produced at Philpots Quarry were a showstopping feature of The M&G Garden at the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Designed by the legendary Roger Platts, this "quintessentially English" garden was a masterclass in combining traditional materials with romantic planting.

This project at Hurstpierpoint College in West Sussex is a remarkable demonstration of traditional UK craftsmanship and heritage conservation. By detailing the intricate tracery windows onto CAD, and using Cadeby natural limestone, our team and the talented masons on site have replicated the iconic English Gothic aesthetic that has defined the college since the 1850s
