🛠️ Tile by tile, niche by niche, Ivana Bransom of GLB Properties is resurrecting the 1930s gems of old LA.

🕰️ As one-third of GLB Properties, she’s spent years bringing early 20th-century LA apartments back from the beige, working around what survives rather than starting from scratch. Her rule: once an original detail is gone, it’s gone.

Case in point — the bathrooms.

“Bathrooms are probably my favorite part of our buildings because people were so much more playful with them. The colors, the borders, the little decorative tiles, the shapes — there was so much personality packed into a relatively small room. Today people can be afraid of color and afraid of taking risks, but these bathrooms remind you that a home doesn’t have to be neutral to be beautiful or timeless.”

🔎 In the sixth instalment of our Obsessed with the Details series, we caught up with Dan and Lulu (Dan & Lulu ~ OINK | Homewares, Furniture & Bespoke), the husband-and-wife design duo behind Oink, based in rural Dorset.

Working from their farm workshop, they create contemporary homewares and bespoke pieces that combine CNC-led joinery with traditional craftsmanship.

⚒️ Their work is playful yet meticulously considered, as seen in their Timbre bowls. The sculptural forms reveal precisely engineered layers of wood beneath the surface, creating a striking interplay of colour, pattern and precision.

And what led them to start Oink? 🐷

“After over a decade in the creative industries in London and Melbourne, we wanted to channel our creativity into something of our own.”
