Saturday morning was well spent at Woking Substation.
Collaborating with the Octavius Infrastructure team on:
- Intrusive survey for DC cable connections.
- Temporary LV supply planning for the new modules.

All critical information was captured, ensuring the project remains on schedule for the next phase of design and installation.

A productive morning on site at High Brooms Railway Station, working with BAM UK & Ireland to identify the High Voltage, Pilot and Fibre Optic cable routes around the substation and car park area.
Positive cable identification is a key step in progressing the proposed Access for All (AFA) scheme, ensuring existing infrastructure can be safely understood and diverted where required.
Never a straightforward task when records are limited, but great teamwork and collaboration made solid progress.

Rail Power Solutions, working alongside L.C. SWITCHGEAR LIMITED, has developed a bespoke 6kA CTS to act as a DC interconnector where a DC circuit breaker option is ruled out due to various constraints. RPS is leading product development and interface coordination for Cleshar, in collaboration with key stakeholders Network Rail and South Western Railway. Today’s Factory Acceptance Test of the new 6kA CTS marks an important milestone in the Fratton project, and we would like to thank everyone involved for their expertise, commitment, and collaborative approach throughout.

Another collaborative step forward today with the completion of topographical surveys and plate bearing tests at both Fratton and Fareham. Plate bearing tests are crucial for assessing the soil's load-bearing capacity and settlement characteristics before the future delivery, installation, and commissioning of the new rectifier transformer and HV circuit breaker at Fratton Depot.

Great teamwork across all parties involved.

Great teamwork in action as we carried out surveys for Octavius Infrastructure for the HV feeder renewals, a critical step in preparation for the upcoming HV feeder renewal works. It’s always rewarding to see collaboration, technical expertise, and planning come together on projects that make a lasting impact on our infrastructure.

This week, we successfully completed surveys for Ramboll on the Lillie Bridge Depot Vacant Possession (LBDVP) project, an important milestone in preparing for the decommissioning of Lillie Bridge Depot and the provision of new sidings at Chiswick Park and Parsons Green.

This project plays a key role in ensuring network reliability and operational continuity, helping to deliver smoother transitions with minimal disruption to rail services.

Many thanks to Morgan Sindall Infrastructure for their great support with the survey arrangements and on-site protections. Collaboration like this drives successful project delivery.

A productive and well-structured survey at Fratton Substation, focused on the termination of DC cables for the new transformer rectifier. Closer inspection revealed that one of the gland plates had been obscured, restricting standard cable entry. Identifying installation constraints at this stage allows us to adapt the termination approach while ensuring compliance with design standards. Good progress achieved today, with the next steps now clearly defined.
