BMD Architects

BMD Architects bmd Architects continue to successfully apply their skills and resources to achieve optimum solution.

bmd Architects LLP, formally the Bader Miller Davis Partnership, was founded in 1958 in offices in High Holborn by Lawrence Bader and Edward Miller, both now retired. The Practice is still based in Central London in a converted Victorian Grain Warehouse in the City of London. Over the almost 60 years bmd Architects have been in practice, they have successfully applied their skills and resources to

achieve optimum solutions for their clients. They regard their clients requirements as the focus of their design development ensuring that the building not only works as a form but works as an environment. The basics of a building is that it is easy to build, economic to construct, efficient to heat and maintain and yet is aesthetically pleasing to both the building user and public at large. To achieve this, bmd Architects pay particular attention to detail combining principles of traditional methods of construction with current technology. Whilst they have developed considerable experience within certain fields of Architecture, they have a vast range of experience covering a broad spectrum of building types. bmd Architects do not have a design formula that is adapted to each individual project. Instead, each project is approached from first principles, dealing with its own specific issues and requirements. bmd architects enjoys a reputation for providing appropriate and sensitive design responses to Clients needs producing practical and efficient buildings. In 2025, bmd architects opened up an office in Jersey int eh Channel Islands, that will be focusing on domestic architecture.

“Trends We Saw at CDW” Series – Neurodivergent design
Our favourite: Anna Wilson-Knight
Spaces that feel peaceful don't happen by accident — they're designed with intention.
This beautiful 3D-printed material collection by Anna does exactly that. Showcased during an inspiring time at Clerkenwell Design Week, every texture and finish was crafted to promote tranquillity — something that can be so hard to find, especially for neurodivergent minds in busy social settings.
It’s rare to see design that truly listens to how people feel. This one does. Soft, sensory, and deeply thoughtful.
Thank you to everyone who’s making spaces quieter, kinder, and more inclusive — one detail at a time. Can't wait to see what you will produce next year. See you there!

Last week we took a tour of the inspiring Crossness Sewer museum to look around the beautiful Victorian London Sewer. Who would have thought a sewer could be beautiful? The Victorian's with their love of decoration of course. Built in 1865, this pumping station was built in response to the cholera outbreaks and the discovery of poor living conditions being linked to disease.

As it is the great naturalist Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday today, we thought we'd celebrate by sharing the recent refurbishment completed by BMD Interiors Ltd of the Dodo Cafe Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. Sir David has been a vocal supporter of all the wonderful work carried out by Jersey Zoo.

Some days the commute to work is a bit further than normal. This week it took us all the way to sunny Dublin! The weather was amazing and the view even better. That's some serious Irish hospitality.

This month we joined forces with 9X5 Architects to host a group of students from Academie de Lille to talk about the architecture industry in Jersey and the work we do as small practices.
It was a pleasure discussing differences between here and France and hearing how much the group was enjoying their visit to Jersey.

Yesterday was a busy day for Partner Matt, who saw sunrise and sunset traveling to Edinburgh and back for site meetings. It was a long but successful day.

Designing isn't always pretty, sometimes it's a visual conversation about flow and the use of the space. What can look messy can actually contain a host of information that goes into the design. It may not look pretty on the tracing paper but it turns into a beautifully considered space.

An inspiring day at the Surface Design Show 2026.
Interesting discussions around the importance of our material choices and how we as designers can make an impact.
A highlight of the day was listening to a panel talk exploring biophillic design, with industry experts delving into the benefits this can have in workplace design and our day to day lives.

Looking forward to learning more about the materials discovered at the show, exploring how we can incorporate these into our future projects to create environments that benefit our wellbeing and the planet.
