Making Light Work of a Heavy Lift for Scottish Power in Glasgow

Having successfully conducted lifting operations on all DNO sites, MAC Projects provide solutions and overcome challenges, ensuring that safety and quality remains paramount throughout the project.

With a business based on years of continuous improvement, our processes, our working history and experience speaks for itself. However, we are in a position to showcase and demonstrate our accomplishments and will do so over the coming weeks.

For example, on a recent Scottish Power Energy Network Project, when a conventional jack & skid wasn’t an option, nor a mobile crane position within the substation, we devised a plan and set in motion the process to enable a Heavy Lift Mobile Crane to be placed on an adjacent street.

With assistance from our equipment suppliers and others within the Project, all work was completed as planned and approved.

Together with our delivery partners, each week we demonstrate our attention to detail and execute projects in a safe and quality driven manner.

In this instance, working on a SPEN project near Edinburgh, we were engaged in advance to provide details around the offloading and installation. There were various options available, with our engineering contribution and decades of experience in delivering substation projects used at the front end. This helped to plan the design, the temporary works and minimise risk. All leading to a delivery installation that had a positive outcome.

The aerial images are representative of a double transformer installation that was ‘not possible’ by mobile crane and required Jacking and Skidding. The engineered solution allowed for both Transformers to be installed in a single shift.
