“The last 40 years seems to have gone in a flash, but there have been so many changes in how business is done compared with 1986. Many employees have grown up in Cartmore, and now in some instances their family members are also employed in the business.”

-Gordon Banks, on 40 years of Cartmore.

Recognition Built Over 40 Years

We were delighted to see Gordon Banks recently become a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Builders' Merchants, one of the modern livery companies of the City of London, with membership by invitation only.

It's just the latest in a long list of awards, accolades and industry recognition Cartmore has picked up over the years, from national supplier awards to a mention in the UK Parliament.

Fun Fact!

Fancy a mind-blowing stat? Cartmore sells enough bulk bagged materials each year that, stacked on top of each other, they'd reach over 18,000 metres, more than TWICE the height of Mount Everest!

Just one of the ways 40 years adds up.

One more story to share before we wrap up our 40th celebrations...

Then vs Now!

In 1986 it was pens, handwritten invoices, VAT books, fax machines, and a tractor and trailer.

Today it's cloud servers, online ordering, forklifts, mechanical shovels, and HGV offloading. 40 years of change, and Cartmore has kept pace every step of the way.

Keep following along as we count down to the big day.

Humble Beginnings:

Day 1 at Cartmore: we had no customers, no stock to a leaky timber shed, and then using the old pit head baths of the Nelly Pit in Lochgelly as storage and offices, things have certainly changed.

Co-founder Gordon Banks still remembers those early days fondly, and look how far things have come since!

More milestones to come this month.
