One of the major problems facing Care Homes is soaring utility costs. A simple solution is to change to LED bulbs saving upwards of 65% on lighting costs. Simple and effective.
Internal LED solutions – brightening your space
In addition to saving you money, using the right LEDs can completely change how an internal space looks and feels, providing ambience to the space. Whilst carrying out our free lighting survey we consider all health and safety lighting aspects as well as the current lighting guidelines, but more importantly how you use the space. We quite often find that the area has had a change of use and the lighting no longer suits the current needs of the people working in that location.
We can increase lighting in areas to guide customers to reception areas, we can create subtle lighting schemes for restaurants, produce laboratory super bright light levels for inspection and precision work, brighten loading bays in warehouses or we can install movement detection in quieter areas such as hallways, toilets and warehousing racking aisles – whatever you need.
We want your lighting to work for you and your finances.

Liverpool are planning to put up Council Tax to meet increased cost of care. Interviews on the street yesterday showed a mixed response. It appears to me that once again those with not very much are being asked to support those with nothing at all. Council Tax is based on area valuation so there is some element of those with more, will pay more, but I am not sufficiently well versed in taxation to put forward an alternative. The Lord Mayor of Liverpool is proposing a referendum of council tax payers to make a decision.
This is however a national problem, one which the EU could not fix and is with us Brexit or no Brexit. With an ever aging population it is not a problem which is going to get any easier and impacts heavily on hospital beds and quaintly named 'bed blockers'; one can just imagine lines of old people surrounding and hijacking beds.
It seems to me that although increased local taxation is a reasonable short term measure but will it solve a long term problem? I think it is a central government problem to raise the money and let local government spend it as appropriate to their area, however we shall see.

Care Homes Closing

According to latest government figures there have been over 750 Nursing Care beds lost so far this year; approx. 75 care homes have closed and more plan to do so.
The Government suggest the lack of qualified Nurses in the Care Home system has resulted in the inability of home to provide the required level of qualified care. This may be true but those in the system suggest it is the increased cost of legislation and the requirements of the CQC which place too much of a burden on the income from the local authorities.
As always with this kind of situation the media is only interested in those homes which are sited for poor care and bullying of patients and do not seem interested in those homes that provide an exceptional level of care in an increasingly difficult financial and administrative position.
With an increasing aging population and requirement for adult care surely more money has to be made available to meet the needs of the care homes.
