The clocks go back in a few weeks (Sunday 25 October to be precise!) and the evenings are starting to draw in - meaning more nights curled up in front of the TV.

If the TV volume is becoming a household debate, ask us about streaming TV sound straight to your hearing aids. Phonak's Roger TV Connector, for example, plugs into a TV, computer or hi-fi and sends the sound to any hearing aid with a telecoil - no matter the brand. Other brands do have their own TV accessories, and we can discuss the best option for you.

Who might EON Sphere suit? An example:

Picture a man who plays golf twice a week. He copes well at home, but conversation in the clubhouse is hard work, and the wind on the course turns a chat into guesswork. He liked the idea of the Infinio Sphere but thought it looked too big.

For someone like him, we would start with a hearing test, then recreate a busy clubhouse in our surround-sound room. If EON Sphere suited his hearing, a free trial would let him judge the size, the clubhouse and the wind for himself.

Those are Phonak's figures for its new EON Sphere hearing aid, compared with the previous Sphere (Infinio). Phonak's technical data also lists 22 hours of expected use per charge, and up to 38 hours, depending on how much you stream, your hearing loss and where you spend your day.

Even with heavy use of Sphere, the speech-in-noise feature, EON's battery still gives you around 11 hours of use, and about 30 minutes in the charger gives roughly a quarter of a charge. Our first look explains what else is new, and EON Sphere is available to trial at our Rodney Street clinic.

Do cafes and restaurants feel like harder work than they used to?

When our Phonak reps visited our clinic with the new EON Sphere hearing aid, they used an immersive speaker to recreate a busy coffee shop. The team found EON Sphere made for a significantly more natural hearing experience, as you can hear speech from all directions without having to move your head. Its speech-in-noise feature, known as Sphere, uses AI to separate speech from background noise in real time.

A demonstration is not a clinical trial. How any hearing aid works for you depends on your hearing, your ears and how carefully it is fitted. That is why we recreate your own difficult places in our surround-sound consultation room before you decide anything. EON Sphere is available to trial at the clinic.

Last week we had a brilliant visit from our Phonak rep, Matthew, and Phonak's training manager, Laura, to show us the new Phonak EON Sphere hearing aids. The whole team got to experience the new technology, including Sphere's 360 degree background noise-suppression, which makes for a really natural experience. They even brought a fan to show us the EON's new wind suppression function - a must for hearing aid wearers living in Liverpool! Our trainee Hearing Aid Dispenser, Emily, started her first audiology lectures at Aston University last week. Emily joined us on Reception almost a year ago while working as an academic researcher, but she loved working with our patients so much that she decided to join us full time and retrain!
