D H Marine (Shetland) Ltd has a vacancy for a time served:

• Electrical Technician

Applicants must be qualified to SVQ level 3 and skilled in carrying out electrical works out in marine and industrial settings in accordance with BS 7671 covering the Requirements for Electrical Installations IET Wiring Regulations.

Typical duties include;
• New installations of electrical equipment, cable and containment
• Electrical modifications and upgrades
• Fault finding, diagnosis and repairs as necessary
• Planned and preventative maintenance
• Condition surveys

Requirements of electrical technician role:

• Ensuring electrical equipment and systems function correctly and remains safe to use.

• Appropriate selection, use and care for tools and equipment, ensuing where applicable such equipment is within its calibration period.

• Work safely at all times, acknowledging you have a duty of care to yourself, your colleagues and anybody else who may be harmed by your actions.

• Periodically provide 24/7 on-call cover for customer breakdowns

• Support and guide apprentices where necessary

• Carry out other electrical and general duties as instructed by the Electrical Supervisor

DESIRABLE - ATEX competent for EX inspection and installation.
DESIRABLE - Approved Electrician (SECTT / ACA)

A few more photos to share from when Dogs Against Drugs used our premises as a training venue recently.

Thankfully all the team's bacon and sausage rolls were safe on the table, as we know Oscar is a typical Labrador after all, and would obviously be interested in tasting them 😄.

It didn't take him long to find the planted training samples located in our warehouse and office areas - you can see the video of Oscar in action in our earlier reel.

We are pleased to sponsor this charity and are impressed by their work and success rate, recently stopping more than £238,000 of drugs from entering the Shetland.

We were pleased to let use our premises as a training venue recently.

During a visit from handler Megan and Vhairi, they put Oscar the labrador to the test by hiding a sample training package of an illegal substance in one of our warehouses. Packed in the end of pipe, with various other odours as a distraction, it wasn't an easy find.

Oscar didn't take too long before identifying the hiding place and being rewarded with his ball for some play time as a reward!

Thanks was given by Dogs Against Drugs project manager, Michael Coutts, for the large sponsorship donation provided by D H Marine (Shetland) Ltd for their charity, which we are delighted to see is being put to effective use.

We wish Shetland Kayak Symposium all the very best as their event starts tomorrow, 24th July 2026.

All attendees and kayak enthusiasts alike are invited to visit our retail shop team whilst in Shetland, although we know you'll have a busy schedule!

Anyone living locally who is considering taking up sea kayaking or has been with the Shetland Canoe Club practicing and now want to move on to purchasing their own gear, we'd be delighted the help kit you out.

From the actual kayak (which we carry stock of), to all the gear and accessories you'll require to help you fully enjoy the activity and time on the water, keep you warm, free to move, dry and safe, we're here to assist.

One of our team is a qualified kayaking instructor so he'll have all the answers to any queries or advice you require to appropriate the correct and most suitable equipment.
