General information

The original factory opened in the late 1860's and processed guano from seabirds for use as fertiliser. In 1990 the company came in to the 50/50 ownership of a consortium of interested parties from the local fishing industry along with Lerwick Port Authority and United Fish Products of Aberdeen, Scotland. On March 10th 2009 it was announced that ownership of the company had passed entirely in to local hands, with the acquisition of the 50% stake held by Origin Enterprises of Dublin, Ireland by Shetland Catch and Lerwick Port Authority. Origin Enterprises had previously acquired and renamed United Fish Products as United Fish Industries, after it had been sold a number of times since 1990.
