An engineering solution firm recently contacted Impact looking for help on improving their LEV systems which served their ABB robot cells and the rework jigs, this is because they were ineffective at controlling the airborne fumes produced during the welding processes.

The system providing extraction for the jigs was replaced by GT extraction walls which had been sized to provide excellent capture efficiency of the welding fumes across the jig when set in both the horizontal and vertical position.
The two jigs within the cell each had extraction canopies installed above them, the canopies measured 1600mm by 1000mm. This helps to ensure the welding fumes are controlled and the workplace is kept safe.

A world leading engineering company recently contacted Impact to organise a site visit, the purpose of the site visit was to assess ventilation requirements to control the solvent vapours produced during the application of bonding substances to metal parts within an existing enclosure.

Impact Technical Services installed a new ducted system to the top of the enclosure using galvanised spiral wound ducting.

A new 1.1kW fan with spark minimising features was installed upon the false ceiling above the bonding area complete with new external discharge stack & high velocity cowl to disperse the extracted solvent vapours safely to atmosphere above the roof line of the building.

The new system was installed & commissioned to meet requirements of HSG 258 Controlling Airborne Contaminants at Work.

A company who specialise in propulsion systems recently asked for Impact to visit their site and inspect the cleaning process within the facility. During the site visit, it was discovered that acetone vapours were being released during the cleaning process.

To overcome this issue and protect employees from the harmful airborne contaminants, Impact’s team of experts installed a GT1000/B extraction hood. A VT1000-C2 0.75kW fan was also installed to provide the air movement required for the system to work efficiently.

A customer recently contacted Impact and requested a site visit to their rifle range. During the site visit, it was established that the ventilation system they were using was inadequate. Therefore, it wasn’t controlling lead fume and other particles.

Impacts engineers removed the existing intake and extraction fans. To replace the extraction fans which had been removed, two KD400 inline duct fans were installed. Along side this, new air extraction and air intake ducting systems were also installed.

A company who specialises in van racking recently contacted Impact looking for a solution to help extract welding fumes. The fumes were being produced when MIG welding was being carried out on mild steel parts, the process was taking place on an individual workbench and occasionally just away from it.

To help protect employees, they requested a four-metre flexible articulating extraction arm. For this solution an RFF extraction arm was installed as it provided them with versatility they required.

If you are exposed to diesel fumes at work, the chances of you developing lung or bladder cancer are significantly increased.

By law, employers should provide adequate control of diesel fumes in the workplace. The IOSH 'No Time To Lose' campaign, recommends the installation of a local exhaust ventilation system as an extremely effective method of controlling exposure.

Did you know that 15 people die a week from lung cancer caused by silica dust?

Silica dust is produced during many common construction tasks which use materials containing silica. Sandstone, concrete, slate, limestone and marble are just some of the materials which contain silica.

No Time To Lose, a campaign ran by the IOSH, suggest that the most effective method of controlling silica dust is through engineering controls such as a local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system. Read more on the subject of silica dust and how to protect employee's here - https://bit.ly/38LIszF

One of the most effective methods of controlling welding fumes is through the installation and use of a local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system, in this case it would be on-torch extraction.

Watch the video below (https://bit.ly/37yWnc1) to see just how effective on-torch extraction is at protecting welders from carcinogenic fumes.

If you require a LEV system or have any questions regarding dust and fume extraction, contact the experts at Impact Technical Services:
