When HVAC coils fail, the clock starts ticking 🔍

Chris Ward, our Area Sales Manager for the South West and Wales, recently visited a shopping centre in Southampton to carry out a site survey following coil failure.

The existing coils had leaked, meaning replacement was essential to restore the building's heating and cooling performance.

On-site, Chris assessed the failed units, took measurements, and gathered everything needed to scope the replacement, ensuring new coils can be engineered to fit the existing AHU housings without unnecessary disruption to the building's mechanical systems.

It's exactly the kind of survey that turns a potential headache into a clean, confident specification.

SPC manufactures bespoke replacement coil heat exchangers to order, including water, steam, and refrigerant, all produced at our Leicester facility.

197 metres of Metropolitan Fan-Assisted Trench Heating across three floors installed at a brand new sixth form centre in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.

The system was engineered for low-temperature hot water operation (40/35°C for heating, 15/19°C for cooling), with a mix of 2-pipe and 4-pipe configurations tailored to each space. Linear brushed stainless steel grilles with polished aluminium trim throughout.

Delivered in collaboration with Elementa Consulting, H&E Engineers Ltd, and main contractor Beard Construction.

Scouting the next upgrade 🔍

Chris Ward was recently on-site at a school to carry out a heating survey, the first step in understanding what a potential fan convector replacement project could look like.

The existing units are a style we recognise well: tall concealed units hidden behind plasterboard, with grilles as the only visible feature in the classrooms, kitchen, and staff rooms.

Access runs through a dedicated service room, a setup that keeps units out of sight and preserves the aesthetic of the learning environment.

A handful of floor-mounted units were also surveyed.

A survey like this is exactly where SPC can add real value. Understanding what's already there means any replacement specification can be matched correctly, the right product, the right configuration, the right result.

New project: Mount Hawke Academy, Cornwall 📸

Mount Hawke Academy, part of the Aspire Academy Trust, needed a heating solution built around a new air source heat pump system, requiring low-temperature performance across classrooms, halls, and offices throughout the school.

SPC supplied 29 Belgravia Classic Fan Convectors and a pair of Belgravia Tilevector Plus ceiling units, all configured for 50/40°C LTHW operation.

ECM motors and low-flow heat exchangers across the board make the units well-suited to the lower flow rates and temperatures that heat pump systems demand.

Installed by K A Environmental Services Ltd, with the project handled by SPC Area Sales Manager Chris Ward.

Two sizes. One purpose. Maximum heat output at low water temperatures.

The Tilevector Plus range comes in two formats: the Solo Plus (595 x 595mm) and the Duo Plus (1195 x 595mm). Both feature an enhanced heat exchanger and deeper casing, designed to extract meaningful heat from the lower flow temperatures that heat pumps and condensing boilers produce.

Tilevector Solo Plus delivers up to 2.7 - 3.5kW on low-medium speed at 50/40°C.
Tilevector Duo Plus delivers up to 5.8 - 7.1kW on low-medium speed at 50/40°C.

Both units drop straight into a standard 600mm T-bar ceiling grid, connect via 15mm copper flow and return, and come with EC motors as standard.

Introducing the Tilevector Duo Plus!

Our new ceiling-mounted fan convector is built for today's heating systems, heat pumps, condensing boilers, and low temperature hot water.

The Duo Plus slots into a standard T-bar ceiling grid, just like a regular ceiling tile, but with an enhanced coil and deeper casing that makes it capable of serious output even at low flow temperatures.

Up to 7.8kW at 50/40°C in a ceiling tile.

The Belgravia Tilevector range now includes four options to suit your project:

- Solo and Duo for standard systems
- Solo Plus and Duo Plus for heat pump and LTHW systems
