FET is proud to receive the Techtextil Innovation Award in the New Production Technology category!

The new FET-500 series finally allows rapid, small-scale gel spinning of UHMWPE without the use of the toxic solvents typically associated with the process. This game-changing equipment will finally unlock R&D and new product development in UHMWPE yarns, which was previously blocked by the large-scale nature of UHMWPE yarn production.

“We are proud that the Techtextil Innovation Award recognises our intensive work. It shows that we are at the forefront of technological developments supporting the textiles of tomorrow.” -Richard Slack, Managing Director

FET ends 2025 exhibition run with COMPAMED 2025

FET reported another successful exhibition at COMPAMED 2025 in Düsseldorf, following closely on the heels of ITMA ASIA in Singapore. This was the second time that FET had exhibited at this leading international trade fair for the medical technology supplier sector, a reflection of the company’s growing role in this sector. More than half of FET’s turnover is currently derived from the burgeoning medical market.

COMPAMED is aimed at suppliers of a wide range of high-quality medical technology components, services and production equipment for the medical industry. FET’s expanding role in the medical sector is therefore an ideal fit for this trade show.

At the exhibition, FET launched its latest ground breaking technology with the FET-500 – Gel Spinning systems for Ultra High Molecular weight polymers such as UHMWPE, boasting significant savings in cost, footprint and environmental factors. With vast flexibility whilst maintaining critical consistency, the FET-500 provides the ability to prove concepts and secure medical device IP. Key benefits include removing the harsh processing chemicals that historically have been used with gel spinning technology. FET’s patent-pending process technology has enabled the process to be compact and environmentally friendly compared to industrial alternatives.

In 2026, FET will be exhibiting at two major trade shows to continue its global drive. This begins with Techtextil, Frankfurt in April, followed by COMPAMED 2026, Dusseldorf in November.

UHMWPE fibres – FET’s game changer for the biomedical market

FET has launched the FET-500 Series of gel spinning systems in a move that could revolutionise the research and development of UHMWPE fibres.

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for R&D of UHMWPE fibres. These fibres are prized in many industries due to their extraordinary properties. However, current production processes are complex and focused on the large-scale output of existing fibre grades. This rigid supply chain has stifled innovation in this untapped product market.

The FET-500 gel spinning systems will address this gap in the market. The FET-500 enables a flexible and consistent process, able to produce quality fibres with less than 100 grams of polymer, while avoiding the harsh processing chemicals that were historically associated with gel spinning.

The key to unlocking this lab and pilot scale flexibility is the use of supercritical carbon dioxide as a green solvent in a patent-pending process. Other key benefits include vastly reduced operational costs and a smaller factory footprint when compared with the hexane route.

FET prepares for final exhibition of 2025

FET has completed its second major exhibition of 2025 at ITMA ASIA in Singapore. Once again, this trade show proved to be a successful one for FET, with considerable interest from several countries surrounding China. Southeast Asia seems to be booming in technical textile development and FET has built up an excellent business relationship with many of these companies over the last two decades, with a growing range of extrusion equipment in the field. FET also boasts a number of specialist technical agents throughout Asia and is seeking to further expand this customer service in the future.

These events will be completed at COMPAMED 2025 between 17-20 November in Dusseldorf, Germany. COMPAMED is widely recognised as a major international trade fair for the medical technology supplier sector and FET’s stand is located in Hall 08B Stand 8BJ09.

This influence will be further emphasised at COMPAMED, where FET will be launching the FET-500 Series of gel spinning systems. These systems have the potential to revolutionise the research and development of UHMWPE fibres, with significant savings in cost, footprint and environmental factors.

In support of this launch, Dr Kristoffer Kortsen, Senior Material & Process Scientist at FET will be giving a talk at COMPAMED 2025, introducing the novel process and equipment used in the FET-500 series, showcasing the agile and user-friendly capabilities of this research line The talk commences at 4.30pm on Monday, November 17.

FET prepares for trio of exhibitions in 2025

FET will be exhibiting at three major trade shows in Asia and Europe over the next 3 months.

This sequence begins in early September at Cinte Techtextil China, the leading trade fair for technical textile and nonwoven products in Asia. FET will be taking a 30sq. metre stand in conjunction with its agent and partner, Chemtax in Hall W5 Booth D10.

This will be followed by ITMA ASIA in Singapore, aimed at the textile and garment industry in South and Southeast Asia and the Middle East. This exhibition takes place at the end of October and FET can be found at Hall H4-B306.

This trio of events is rounded off at COMPAMED 2025 between 17-20 November in Dusseldorf, Germany. This exhibition is widely recognised as a major international trade fair for the medical technology supplier sector. FET’s will be exhibiting in Hall 08B Stand 8BJ09.

“This is a very hectic period for FET,” commented FET’s Managing Director Richard Slack. “However, these exhibitions provide a great opportunity for smaller specialist companies like FET to raise our profile on the international stage and reflects our growing influence in the fields of technical textiles, medical device innovation and many other sectors.”

So good we’ll be going again!

As reported in our last post, FET has now returned from exhibiting for the first time at COMPAMED 2024 in Düsseldorf. It is never certain whether a new exhibition will prove to be a successful venture until it is tested in practice, but we are delighted to report that COMPAMED exceeded all expectations. In fact, we have already booked a stand for next year’s exhibition in November, albeit in a slightly different location.

As a reminder, COMPAMED is a leading international exhibition for medical technology suppliers, so FET’s expertise in pilot melt spinning equipment for precursor materials used in high value medical devices proved to be a perfect fit.

With almost 40 customer leads taken at the show, we are currently working through our follow-ups and look forward to meeting two of these customers at our Fibre Development Centre in Leeds prior to Christmas … and hopefully several more in the New Year!
