Potentially Vulnerable Areas were updated following consultation in 2024. We are also seeking information from you on projects and initiatives that are already happening to help manage flooding in Potentially Vulnerable Areas.

This is a community-focussed consultation – your views matter – please take this opportunity to have your say. The consultation will be open from 21 January until 22 April 2026.

RSABI have just launched a snow fund to help those who have been most affected by the recent snow.

❄️£100,000 Snow Impact Fund Update❄️ Our Welfare Team have been working hard supporting farmers and crofters worst hit by the extreme wintry conditions and - within days of announcing the fund - funds are starting to reach applicants struggling with the damage.
The types of scenarios we are hearing about include extensive damage to buildings (some are struggling to find alternative housing for livestock), livestock losses, polytunnel damage/destruction and losses of feed and bedding supplies.
While it is clear this is a very stressful time for those impacted, the team have also been struck by - despite the strain - how grateful farmers and crofters are for the support we have made available. 💙

BBC’s This Farming Life is Looking for Farmers and Crofters to Take Part in their new series

The award-winning BBC Scotland documentary series This Farming Life is returning - and producers are on the lookout for Scotland based farmers and crofters to feature in the next series.
Celebrating the heart, humour, and hard work of farming life across Scotland, This Farming Life follows a diverse mix of people working the land - from the Highlands and Islands down to the Borders and everything in between. Each series captures the realities of modern agriculture: the hard work, the unpredictable weather, the triumphs, the challenges, and the deep sense of pride that comes with caring for animals, crops, and community.

Filmed over the course of a year, the series offers a stunning and honest portrait of life on the land - from lambing and calving to harvest and livestock marts - revealing the resilience, warmth, and humour that define Scottish farming.

For this new series, the production team is keen to hear from people across Scotland - whether you’re part of a farming family or starting out on your own, carrying on generations of tradition or breaking new ground for the future. This Farming Life would love to hear your story.

Information on the road closures for the Orkney Islands Games, as it says below - best to plan ahead 🚜💨

Hopefully it won't cause too much hassle for you folks 👍

Our trusty Traffic Management Company, Alba, will be around Orkney today putting out traffic warning signs to warn everyone about the road closures during the Island Games 🚗

A reminder that various roads will be closed on Saturday 12th, Sunday 13th, Monday 14th, Wednesday 16th and Friday 18th of July.

Please remember it is an offence to break a road closure. We are working closely with Police Scotland to keep everyone safe.

We understand this may be frustrating but want to remind everyone on how special the Games are for our Island. Not long to go! 💪
