CPA Annual Golf Day ⛳

Yesterday, we welcomed customers and suppliers to Lanark Golf Club for our annual Golf Day.

While the Scottish weather certainly put us to the test, with rain falling throughout the day, it did not dampen spirits. The course was full of great conversation, friendly competition and plenty of opportunities to catch up with valued partners.

Events like these are a great chance to step away from day-to-day business, strengthen relationships and enjoy time with the people who help make our industry such a strong community.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and embraced the conditions. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did, and we look forward to doing it all again next year.

Compressed air systems rarely fail suddenly. More often, they become gradually less efficient over time.

A small leak, a minor pressure drop, or an increase in compressor load may not seem significant in isolation. Together, these issues can create a system that becomes increasingly expensive to operate.

This is one reason compressed air remains one of the most overlooked energy costs in industrial environments. The inefficiency is not always visible day to day, but it becomes clear in long-term operational costs.

The challenge is not only building the system correctly. It is maintaining efficiency throughout its lifecycle.

Compressed air quality is often viewed as a maintenance or compliance concern. In reality, it also has a direct impact on system performance.

Moisture, oil, and other types of contamination can increase pressure drop, accelerate equipment wear, and reduce overall efficiency.

Poor air quality often leads to more maintenance interventions, shorter equipment lifespan, and increased unplanned downtime. Clean air is not only about protecting equipment. It is about maintaining reliable and efficient performance across the entire system.

When compressed air performance drops, attention often goes straight to the compressor. In reality, many losses occur within the distribution network itself.

Undersized pipework, long pipe runs, unnecessary bends, and inherited layouts can all contribute to pressure drop and wasted energy. These issues rarely trigger alarms, but they steadily increase operating costs over time.

In practice, compressed air efficiency is often determined by the network design just as much as the compressor specification.

Compressed air demand is rarely stable. Production spikes, machine cycling, and fluctuating usage all create variability that the system has to absorb. Without adequate storage, that variability is transferred directly to the compressor. This increases cycling, reduces efficiency, and creates instability in pressure delivery.

Storage creates a buffer between supply and demand. It helps stabilise performance, reduce unnecessary wear, and improve overall system efficiency.

In many systems, storage is not an optional extra. It is a core part of maintaining reliable operation.

Recent reporting has suggested that air conditioning could become increasingly necessary in parts of the UK as temperatures continue to rise.

But what happens after you’ve installed it?

Cooling demand is growing, but so are the challenges around refrigerant supply, regulation and long-term sustainability. Installing a system is only part of the conversation. Understanding what keeps it running matters just as much.

While everyone is asking whether to install air conditioning, we’re asking what happens after you’ve installed it.

Our latest white paper looks at the refrigerant market changes businesses need to understand now.

The most expensive compressed air systems are rarely the ones that break. In many industrial environments, inefficiencies do not show up as failures. They show up as wasted energy, rising operating costs, and gradual performance loss.

Undersized storage, poorly planned distribution, and reactive design choices rarely cause immediate disruption. Instead, they create inefficiencies that quietly compound year after year. By the time the issue becomes visible, the cost has already been absorbed into the operation.

Design decisions in compressed air systems may not feel urgent, but they are always impactful.

Most industrial sites treat compressed air like electricity. Install it, switch it on, and assume it will simply work.

But compressed air is not a passive utility. It is a designed system that directly influences energy consumption, production stability, and long-term operating cost. Small decisions at the design stage including capacity, storage, layout, and control strategy can compound into significant inefficiencies over time.

The difference between a good system and a poor one is rarely the compressor itself. It is everything around it. Compressed air should be engineered, not just installed.

Mental health isn’t just something we talk about one week a year, it’s shaped by the small things we do every day.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re focusing on sustainable habits that support wellbeing at work and beyond. Checking in with each other, taking proper breaks, getting away from our desks, setting healthy boundaries and asking for support when we need it.

Because mental health is every day, and small actions can make a big difference.
