As part of our sponsorship of the Aberdeen FC Community Trust Community Cup, we were delighted to be invited into all the schools in the Kemnay Associated School Group - Kintore, Midmill, Kinellar, Kemnay and Alehousewells Primary schools, to deliver a hands-on STEM workshop.
To make learning fun, we designed the session around a rocket launch challenge. 🚀
After a short introduction to STATS Group and the work we do, the pupils were split into teams to design, build and decorate their own paper rockets. Then it was time for the best part of the workshop which was heading outside to launch them and see which rocket flew the highest.
The workshop was designed to introduce the children to the science behind managing pressure. Through testing their rockets, they were able to explore how factors such as shape, weight and tightness of the fit to the launcher can affect performance.
It was fantastic to see so many Meta Skills in action throughout the session, including communication, collaboration, creativity, curiosity, focus, initiative and adaptability.
Programmes like the Community Cup create brilliant opportunities for children to learn, get involved in their communities and develop new skills beyond the classroom and the football pitch. We’re proud to support an initiative that helps make these experiences accessible to local schools.
