Despite having over 30 years of experience between the team it filled us all with a slight bit of dread when we received our customer Vicky's Corrado VR6 at our workshop. Another garage had stripped the engine and then decided to give up on the job and proceeded to throw the engine parts in the boot. Taking on other people's failed work isn't pleasant but after a thorough rebuild Vicky will now be back on the road. Complete head rebuild and bottom end refresh and its now the quietest VR6 we've ever sent out the door.

After several months of a very stressful worshop extension/upgrade we're finally back up and running again. Customer James' gem of a Mk2 Golf Gti 16V in with us these last few weeks for a full refresh of it's 180k KR lump. Bored to 1850cc and every inch of it meticulously gone thorough. Now sings like a proper rev hungry valver once again!

Darren's very original Bordeaux Red G60 in with us today for rough running issues. Timing out by 1 degree and melted lamda sensor wires don't make for a happy G60!

A word to the wise ladies and gents- check your anti-freeze concentration. We had a customers VR6 in with us today for what should've be a routine front water pipe (aka crack pipe) replacement.
On removal it showed the water outlet on the block to be heavily corroded and most likely caused by years of insufficient anti-freeze in the cooling system.
So what would normally be a 1.5 hour job to replace the pipe turned into 5+hours having to weld and reshape the water outlet- not an easy task on a cast iron block.
Before and after pics!

James' super tidy VR6 back in with us again today for a water leak that his local garage didn't want to tackle.
On inspection it turned out to be the plastic water pipe (crack pipe) that runs along the front of the block. A fiddly job to change due to access but we're happy to get involved as always!

We welcomed a new mechanic to the team this week and its finally given us a chance to get cracking with our extremely well used 192k ex Vw press car Mk3 Gti 16V.
Taking a peek at the MOT history and knowing all too well how, VW's often over looked Gti, love to rust we were slightly fearful it would be beyond saving. But..... what a pleasant surprise we had, once we got it up in the air. Except for a couple of very minor bits on front of the sills it is by in large completely solid! Most likely helped by the fact that it has a very generous helping of oil leaks coming from most places on the engine that at brisk speeds end up covering the underneath- "oil leaks aren't necessarily a bad thing" said Arthur Daily
What we're a little confused by is that the MOT history shows that it racked up 123k in its first year of life as a press car! We knew it would be well used (had the be-jesus thraped out of it) but 123k in one year is quite something!
So after that small shock was digested we set to work getting the clutch to play ball with a new slave and the engine to idle properly with a new ISV.
Next stage will be brakes and a 'bit' of welding on the sills we mentioned and that crunchy filler surround!

It's held every year on the last Wednesday of July and it's one of our favourites.
Always has a huge turn out and this year we spotted one of our customer's cars- James' super clean VR6

Jim's VR6 in with us today for some surgery on the drivers side sill. A few pin holes turned into lots and lots of bigger holes in both inner and outer sills.
All now cut out and replaced with fresh metal and you would really never know. In fact our metal work is tidier than VW produced on the passenger side!

Neil's freshly painted G60 in with us at the CG headquarters today, accompanied by several thousand parts stuffed in the back of a transit van that we'll need to carefully sort through and refit with all the correct fittings and fixings.
It's a great big Corrado mechano set!

Any love for this one ladies and gents??? or do we relieve it of its ABF for a more deserving Corrado???
We're very torn as there can't be many 3 door Mk3 Golf Gtis left and even fewer red with factory black leather and 23 stamps in its original service book. Seems a shame to kill it off for the sum of its parts.
We'll let you decide in the comments section!

We were asked recently what's involved with a conversion from automatic to manual so here it is. The parts you will need for this conversion are as follows:

Gearbox
Pedal box
Shifter + Cables
2 x water hoses
Driveshafts
Starter motor
Front engine mount
Gearbox mount
Flywheel + clutch
Splicing of two wires for reverse light switch
Gearbox inspection plate

And that's your lot. A picture of the bits that need swapping is below. Not a 5 minute job and not something we'd recommend you tackle without a ramp unless very brave or you happen to be Hugh Edwards.

If interested in this conversion for your own Corrado please get in touch for a quote.
