If you are in contact with engineered stone dust or mist, regular health surveillance is a must.

Workers should have be checked before they start work with engineered stone, or within the first 6 weeks.

Every employee must be seen by an occupational health professional, at least annually.

If your workers have already been exposed to silica dust, you may need to arrange a chest x-ray straight away.

RPE2Fit welcomed Leon the Lion 🦁 at our stall Kilbarchan Lilias Day. We are so proud to say that Leon helped us raise over £250 for Salvation Army Charity Shop Johnstone, and also helped us raise awareness of respiratory protective equipment 😷. Staying safe at work and going home healthy is our main objective at RPE2Fit.

A huge thank you 🙏 to the team at the Salvation Army Johnstone Charity store for helping us make this all possible, to Paul Devlin for helping us set up, to Rosemary Charlton for providing teas, coffees and rolls ☕️for us during the day, and to Chris McDonald for keeping everyone entertained 😄!

We would also like to thank everyone brave 💪enough to stand next to Leon 🦁for a picture (he was a big hit with the kids!). And to Police Scotland, Kilbarchan Old Library, and to Habbies Bar and Grill for their contributions.

It was lovely to see both new and familiar faces, including one of our counsellors, Andy Doig.

Our inspections have found that RPE failures are the most widespread theme across bodyshops – and they're rarely down to one thing.

Inspectors are repeatedly finding a chain of problems: incorrect mask types, poor face-fit, facial hair preventing a seal, damaged or incorrectly stored equipment, and RPE simply not being worn consistently – even when it's provided.

Filtering respirators do not protect against isocyanates. Only air-fed RPE certified to BS EN 14594:2018 with a low-flow warning device provides adequate protection.

Having the right kit in the cupboard is not enough. It needs to be worn correctly, maintained, fitted, and used every single time.
