Bringing Tube Cutting In-House
Established in 2003, Buxton & McNulty Mechanical Services specialises in pipework installations, on-site welding and fabrication for commercial, residential, healthcare, education and industrial projects. With its own fabrication facility and a long-standing reputation built on repeat business, the company recently took the strategic decision to bring tube cutting in-house for the first time.
Having previously outsourced its cutting requirements, Buxton & McNulty wanted greater control over lead times, quality and production scheduling. A key requirement was the ability to process 6-metre lengths of metal tube efficiently while reducing reliance on constant operator supervision.
Following discussions with Prosaw, the company selected the JLH H320 PRO CE Twin Column Automatic Bandsaw, a high-performance production saw offering an excellent balance of automation, productivity and value.
Key features include:
✅ 10" touchscreen NC control with storage for up to 100 programmes
✅ Servo-controlled feed and cutting pressure adjustment
✅ Multi-pass cutting capability for longer components
✅ Split front vice for improved cut quality
✅ Automatic swarf conveyor
✅ Hydraulic blade tensioning and blade deviation monitoring
To complement the machine, Prosaw also designed and supplied a bespoke infeed and outfeed handling system, tailored specifically to Buxton & McNulty's workflow, material lengths and factory layout.
The result is a dedicated automated cutting cell that enables the company to process long-length tubing in-house, improving efficiency, reducing lead times and delivering greater control over production.
