The Innovators

If you want to know where the material-handler market is heading, history shows one simple truth: the industry follows Mantsinen.

· When Mantsinen introduced Hybrilift, they weren’t copying energy-recovery systems they were the first to apply them to material handlers. Others had to follow.

· When Mantsinen pioneered extended pantograph cab arms, they set a new standard. Once the patent eventually expired, others followed.

· When Mantsinen broke the 250-tonne GVW barrier with a 40-metre boom and stick on the 200 series in 2008, others followed.

· When Mantsinen entered Panamax-sized vessel loading with the 300 in 2017, others eventually followed.

· When Mantsinen rolled out a full telematics suite in 2016, others followed.

· When Mantsinen launched Dual Power; electric and diesel in one machine. Others haven’t followed yet.

· When Mantsinen unveiled 2nd-generation Hybrilift to increase energy consumption yet further, others couldn’t follow - the patents still stand.

Across every major leap in this industry, the pattern is the same: Mantsinen leads. The market reacts.

Mantsinen don’t wait for the future; they build it. The only obvious question remains: where will they take this industry next?

Rethinking Stockpiling: Why a Telestack Conveyor Outperforms a Loading Shovel

When it comes to building clean, consistent stockpiles, the method you choose makes all the difference.

A Telestack stockpiling conveyor feeds material from the top, placing it gently and evenly to create a natural, uniform pile. In contrast, a loading shovel with a 10‑metre pusher blade pushes material from the bottom, and a significant portion, often around 30%, simply rolls back down the face of the pile. That rollback means extra movements, more fuel burn, additional machine hours and unnecessary product degradation as material is repeatedly disturbed.

A Telestack conveyor eliminates these inefficiencies. By working with gravity instead of against it, it builds a cleaner, more consistent stockpile with greater height, far less rehandling and far better product integrity. The result is a safer, more efficient and more cost‑effective operation.

Sometimes the smartest solution is the one that keeps the material flowing the way nature intended.

Choosing the right spreader drive system matters.

On an STS crane, the spreader is the “hand” that grips the box and RAM Spreaders offers three proven drive philosophies to match different terminal needs.

2400 Series – Electro‑hydraulic (Single Lift) A robust, familiar hydraulic design powered from the crane. Ideal for terminals wanting heavy‑duty single‑lift performance for 20/40/45 ft containers, with capacities up to 51 tonnes.

2900 Series – Hydraulic Twinlift with CenterSpread Maximum flexibility for STS operations. Handles single containers or twin‑20s, with adjustable gaps up to 1,600 mm. Perfect where twin‑20 productivity is commercially important.

3400 & 3900 Series – All‑Electric No hydraulics, no oil, less maintenance. Electric drives improve uptime, environmental performance and safety. Available in both single‑lift and twinlift Center Spread configurations.

Each philosophy offers its own strengths; from heavy‑duty hydraulic power to clean, efficient all‑electric operation, giving terminals the freedom to choose the system that best fits their operational strategy.

U-Load if you want to

The U‑Loader is built around one powerful idea: your load should stay safe, stable and fully protected inside the trailer from start to finish.

No external lifting. No exposure to damage. No unnecessary handling.

Just a clean, controlled, one‑operator system that keeps the load exactly where it should be; secure within the trailer’s structure, while boosting efficiency across the entire workflow.

For teams who value safety, reliability and predictable performance, the U‑Loader isn’t just an upgrade… it’s a smarter way of working from Cooper.

Rear Ends

There’s been a noticeable rise in industry chatter recently about counterweights and ballasts. These components rarely get the attention they deserve, yet they are absolutely fundamental to a machine’s stability. For designers, the challenge is always the same: achieving the right weight, at the right distance, without compromising rearward visibility.

When developing the Camblift reachstacker, the design team added another layer of complexity - maintenance access. Although they brought deep experience from their previous careers as reachstacker designers, they openly acknowledged that they had never been the ones performing maintenance on a steer axle positioned directly beneath a counterweight.

After speaking with customers, they heard the same message repeatedly: tight spaces, awkward access, and difficult working conditions. The request was clear. Increase the space below the counterweight, but without sacrificing weight distribution, visibility or safety.

The result is impressive. Camblift’s counterweight is beautifully sculpted from steel, with an intelligent redistribution of mass that maintains stability and visibility while creating significantly more room for maintenance engineers. A simple idea, executed with real engineering intelligence.

Port Equipment miles away from a port

Being a port equipment supplier based in land-locked Warwickshire, we couldn’t be further from a sea or river port. We are however located central to them all, so it came as a welcome change to deliver some port equipment into our home county, naturally, in a non-port environment.

A local machine‑tool supplier regularly ships heavy, awkward‑sized machinery to their customers. These loads are often too large or too cumbersome for standard ISO containers, and even when they do fit, there’s no guarantee they can be safely removed at the destination. For that reason, the customer prefers to use flat racks: easy side‑loading, no doors, and no extended load centres.

To handle these flats safely, the customer requires a TEC Container BA‑030E overheight frame, mounted beneath the reachstacker spreader. This provides the necessary lifting height while minimising the risk of contact damage during loading.

The BA‑030E offers a 50‑tonne capacity and a free loading height of 2,700 mm, with options to tailor this to specific needs. Frames are available in fixed‑position or telescopic versions covering 20–45 ft ISO locations.

Smart, safe, and engineered for real‑world handling - yet another example of intelligent handling solutions from Cooper.

The Mighty Mantsinen 300 - The Ultimate Port “Swiss Army Knife”

When it comes to capability, versatility and intelligent engineering, nothing quite matches the Mantsinen 300 - one of the most powerful hydraulic cranes on the planet.

Available in five different undercarriage configurations, with a choice of symmetric or asymmetric upper structures, the 300 can be tailored precisely to its working environment. Add in three power options; diesel, electric or dual‑power and operators can balance performance, sustainability and operating cost with complete freedom.

And then there’s Hybrilift 2. The energy recovered through this system is equivalent to adding an extra Volvo 11‑litre diesel engine without burning a drop of fuel. No wonder the Mantsinen 300 stands as the most energy‑efficient machine on the market.

What provides the versatility is its ability to switch attachments in under two minutes. From grabs to hooks to spreaders, it transforms instantly to meet the demands of ports, terminals and heavy‑industry operations.

Fast. Quiet. Clean. Efficient. A machine built to do the work of many - and do it better.

The Mantsinen 300 isn’t just a crane. It’s the ultimate port Swiss Army knife.

Being a Cooper Engineer means no two days are ever the same.

Our team specialises in big equipment and they wouldn’t have it any other way. Be it. 52‑tonne forklifts, container handling reachstackers, even 400‑tonne Mantsinen cranes… this is the scale our engineers thrive on and the reason they turn-up day-in, day out.

What really sets them apart is the variety. One day they’re rebuilding major components, the next they’re diagnosing complex systems miles from base. Covering the whole country means it’s not unusual to drive a couple of hours before the tools even come out of the van. And whatever the weather throws at them, that won’t stop them. It’s not a role for everyone but that’s exactly why it suits the people who choose it.

Cooper put a strong emphasis on first‑time fix, but with a central parts hub behind them, our engineers do collect what they need and head straight back out to keep customers moving. It’s a fast‑paced, hands‑on, problem‑solving environment and our engineers deliver each and every single day.

Proud of the work they do. Proud of the team they are.

Container handling doesn’t always happen out on the yard. We are aware of more operations need safe, efficient movement indoors, in tight spaces, and in areas where large lifting equipment simply isn’t practical.

That’s where the Movella Movella Oy CM36 Container Mover comes into its own.

The CM36 is a hydraulically lifting trailer that allows a terminal tractor to lift, transport and set down 20–45’ containers independently; no cranes, no heavy lifting equipment, no delays. Its low‑clearance capability and excellent manoeuvrability make it ideal for warehouses, factories and indoor logistics environments where space is limited.

Operators benefit from clear forward visibility, containers travel close to the ground for safer handling, and integrated lighting and a reversing camera support confident movement in confined areas.

The efficiency gains are just as compelling. The CM36 offers low operating and maintenance costs, minimal downtime and the ability to keep terminal tractors productive across multiple tasks. With weight distributed over three axle lines, it’s gentle on surfaces and well‑suited to indoor flooring and sensitive ground conditions.

For sites looking to streamline container handling , especially indoors, or where stacking is not important, the Movella CM36 delivers a simple, safe and highly cost‑effective solution.

Smart movement. Safer operations.
