A UK & Ireland first for Mantsinen Dual Power

A landmark investment. A UK and Ireland first. And, we believe, the first of many.

Cooper Specialised Handling is delighted to announce that Shoreham Port has placed an order for a Mantsinen 140DEM Dual Power material handler, becoming the first operator in the UK and Ireland to invest in this innovative technology.

For us, what makes Dual Power particularly exciting is its practicality.

The 140DEM delivers identical operating performance whether running on its diesel engine or connected to mains electricity. It means Shoreham can utilise renewable HVO fuel today, operate fully electrically where infrastructure permits, and independently travel between working locations before reconnecting to the electrical supply.

It provides a genuine pathway towards decarbonisation without sacrificing the mobility, flexibility or productivity demanded by a modern port operation.

As part of the evaluation process, the Shoreham team travelled to Denmark to see a near-identical 140DEM Dual Power machine already working in a demanding port environment. Seeing the concept successfully proven in day-to-day operation provided further confidence ahead of this landmark investment.

Liam joins Cooper with an impressive track record of success within the high-volume forklift market, where he has consistently demonstrated strong customer focus, commercial acumen and an ability to develop lasting customer relationships. He now embarks upon an exciting new chapter as he enters the specialist world of heavy-capacity equipment serving ports, terminals, logistics hubs, heavy industry and the nuclear sector.

Liam has already hit the ground running. Last week he travelled to Ljungby, Sweden, where he spent time with our partners at Camblift and SveTruck, acquainting himself with the people, products and expertise behind two key brands within our mobile equipment portfolio.

The visit provided Liam with an invaluable introduction to the engineering, manufacturing and product knowledge that underpin both Camblift reachstackers and SveTruck heavy lift trucks, while also beginning to build the close relationships with our manufacturing partners that are so important in delivering the right solutions and support to our customers.

As Cooper Specialised Handling continues to grow, we recently made the strategic decision to separate the sales functions of our mobile equipment and bulk handling equipment divisions. Rethinking Stockpiling: Why a Telestack Conveyor Outperforms a Loading Shovel

When it comes to building clean, consistent stockpiles, the method you choose makes all the difference.

A Telestack stockpiling conveyor feeds material from the top, placing it gently and evenly to create a natural, uniform pile. In contrast, a loading shovel with a 10‑metre pusher blade pushes material from the bottom, and a significant portion, often around 30%, simply rolls back down the face of the pile. Rear Ends

There’s been a noticeable rise in industry chatter recently about counterweights and ballasts. These components rarely get the attention they deserve, yet they are absolutely fundamental to a machine’s stability. For designers, the challenge is always the same: achieving the right weight, at the right distance, without compromising rearward visibility.

When developing the Camblift reachstacker, the design team added another layer of complexity - maintenance access. Although they brought deep experience from their previous careers as reachstacker designers, they openly acknowledged that they had never been the ones performing maintenance on a steer axle positioned directly beneath a counterweight.

After speaking with customers, they heard the same message repeatedly: tight spaces, awkward access, and difficult working conditions. The request was clear. Increase the space below the counterweight, but without sacrificing weight distribution, visibility or safety.

The result is impressive. Camblift’s counterweight is beautifully sculpted from steel, with an intelligent redistribution of mass that maintains stability and visibility while creating significantly more room for maintenance engineers. A simple idea, executed with real engineering intelligence.
