Carolingian Armoured Infantry - Out Friday

The armoured lads are about to join the mix!

These armoured figures include varied armour styles, including mail, scale and lamellar with an assortment of spears, hand weapons and varied heads with helmet styles.

Just like the unarmoured infanty, we have included a few examples of the Carolingian style helmet that looks very much like the later Renaissance Morion style helmet. There is much debate as to whether this helmet existed in reality or whether it was just an artistic interpretation of a Roman helmet in manuscripts. They can be used or not used according to whichever argument you prefer.

Carolingian Franks Unarmoured Infantry - Now Shipping!

The Franks are finally here! This set represents unarmoured Carolingian and Frankish warriors from the 8th to the 11th centuries, filling a huge gap in Dark Age plastic miniatures.

The Carolingian Empire was one of the great powers of early medieval Europe, reaching its height under Charlemagne, who united much of Western and Central Europe and was crowned Emperor in A.D. 800. His reign helped shape the political and military landscape of medieval Europe for centuries to come.

Typical weapons included stout spears, often fitted with a distinctive cross guard beneath the spearhead, along with knives, axes and heavy wooden clubs. Swords were rarer and more expensive, but Carolingian examples were renowned for their quality, strength and lightness.

Clothing usually consisted of a long-sleeved tunic with contrasting decorative borders, often worn with a long cloak. Leg bindings were common, while contemporary artwork also shows the distinctive Carolingian "tulip" style boots.

6 sprues, each containing:

• 6 unarmoured Carolingian warriors
• 11 spears, including examples with the distinctive Carolingian cross guard
• 9 hand weapons, including swords, axes, seaxes and wooden clubs
• 6 convex Carolingian shields with embossed details
• 6 sword scabbards
• 6 knife scabbards
• 4 cloaks in flowing and draped poses
• 17 heads, including 8 bare heads, 2 caps and 7 helmeted heads
• Horn and standard bearer arms for creating command figures

The head options include several Carolingian helmet styles, including the distinctive form sometimes shown in contemporary manuscripts that resembles the later Renaissance Morion. Historians still debate whether this helmet existed exactly as depicted or was an artistic interpretation of earlier Roman equipment, so plenty of alternative helmet options are included.

The lack of Carolingians in plastic has been a huge hole in Dark Ages wargaming, but not for much longer. These guys will be perfect for Pillage.

Carolingian Unarmoured Infantry Sprue – First Look!

Here’s the first sprue of 4 from our upcoming Carolingian range.

First up is the unarmoured infantry, which will go on sale next Friday, 4th September! You’ll get 6 of these sprues in the set, making a total of 36 figures.

Hot on their heels will be the armoured infantry, followed by 2 cavalry sets, both armoured and unarmoured, in around 2 months’ time.

Full sprue breakdown:

• 6 highly detailed unarmoured Carolingian warriors (per sprue), with an assortment of spears, hand weapons and varied heads with helmets, caps or bare heads.

• 11 spears – enough to arm all 6 figures. Many feature the distinctive cross guard below the spearhead, a distinctive Carolingian feature.

• 9 hand weapons – sword arms wielding Carolingian swords with varied hilt and pommel designs, plus hand axes, seaxes and wooden clubs to represent less affluent warriors who could not afford a sword.

• 6 shields – in the distinctive Carolingian style. These are noticeably dished/convex with embossed details including studs, plaques and stitching. Carolingian shields were often brightly coloured in a single colour or with swirling patterns.

• 6 sword scabbards
• 6 knife scabbards
• 4 cloaks – Carolingian soldiers are often shown wearing cloaks in contemporary manuscripts, so we’ve included enough to equip 4 figures with flowing and draped capes.

• 17 heads – 8 bare heads, 2 caps and 7 helmeted heads. See if you can spot the head based on President Macron of France!

We’ve also included examples of the distinctive Carolingian-style helmet that looks similar to the later Renaissance Morion. There is still debate over whether this helmet existed in reality or was simply an artistic interpretation of a Roman helmet in manuscripts. Use them or leave them out depending on your preference, there are plenty of alternative helmet styles included.

Command parts include horn arms and standard bearer arms, allowing you to create musicians and banner bearers.

Altogether that’s a staggering 83 parts on a single sprue! Loads of variety to make every figure different, with plenty of parts left over for your bits box and conversions. Enjoy!

It's Time! Pre-Orders for the New Pillage Intro Box are now live.

This box set contains 4 (yes 4!) brand new sprues. These contain completely new sculpts such as the new buildings and the wattle fences, but we have also created a mixed loot frame offering a sample of existing objects and animals from across our Pillage accessories range.

Starter Booklet – The starter booklet offers a 'light' version of the main rulebook. It focuses on learning the mechanics from the ground up. It also gives you some simple scenarios to work through.

Pre Cut Transfers - Now Available!

Earlier this year we introduced the pre-punched transfers. This time we are taking it one step further, giving you option to get any shield (or flag) entirely pre cut.

We worked on these a long time, finding the best way to pre-cut the outline of each transfer in a way that was fast, convenient and easy to use.

Simply push each shield or flag out. No need for any cutting at all.

As an aside, since launching the pre-punched transfers, 97% of you have opted for the pre-punched option. For obvious reasons, there isn't much point in us continuing to stock the un-punched transfers. The stock is simply unused and taking up a lot of space in the warehouse, so from now on all transfers are pre-punched by default.

Currently this only applies to transfers for Victrix products, but one of the next things we are looking at is rolling the pre-cutting across all other manufacturers too. We also have some other cool transfer related things in the works, which we are excited to show off.

Pillage Intro Set – The full breakdown

Okay folks! Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for, the full breakdown of the upcoming Pillage intro set. Vikings vs Irish.

This box was designed to be the ultimate introductory set, creating both the perfect starting point for a new player, but also offering something new for existing players.

Sprues – this box set contains 4 (yes 4!) brand new sprues. These contain completely new sculpts such as the new buildings and the wattle fences, but we have also created a mixed loot frame offering a sample of existing objects and animals from across our Pillage accessories range.

Illustrations – the incredible front cover art was done by the exceptionally talented Even Amundsen. The box also contains an A4 poster of the cover art. Even is also already working on illustrations for future Pillage releases, which are going to look incredible!

Vikings vs Irish - As the original sprues for the Vikings contained 8 figures, and the Irish sprue contains 6, we factored this into the booklet and the scenarios.

Pillage revolves around equipment and objectives. In the kit, we’ve set it up so the Irish have more ranged weapons and a very powerful Danish axe. The Vikings have the numerical advantage, but since they’re the ones who have to steal the cattle, the task isn't easy; they’ll be taking fire, and that Danish axe can be deadly. The scenarios are designed to balance out that numerical disparity. Plus, this is just an introductory set for learning the ropes. If you want to get into the strategy side of things, you’ll need to buy the rulebook and build your own warband.
