The best place for your home battery isn’t simply wherever there’s space🔋
Battery location is increasingly dictated by safety and regulation, not just convenience.
When we design a battery storage system, we have to consider far more than whether the unit physically fits on the wall. Its position needs to take into account things such as fire safety, escape routes, proximity to the dwelling, suitable clearances, access for maintenance, environmental conditions and the manufacturer’s requirements.
These requirements exist for a reason: to help protect you, your family and your property.
With updated electrical regulations coming fully into effect this October, domestic battery installations are being brought even more clearly into the requirements covering safe battery positioning and fire protection. PAS 63100:2024 specifically addresses fire safety and installation location for battery energy storage systems in homes.
That means the position a homeowner would ideally like isn’t always the position we can responsibly recommend.
A properly designed battery installation starts by asking:
• Where can it be installed safely?
• What does the property layout allow?
• What do the regulations and manufacturer require?
• How do we protect the people and building around it?
Only then do we decide where the battery should go.
