The UK Government's 2026 Advanced Manufacturing AI Adoption Plan highlights applications including predictive maintenance, quality control, supply-chain optimisation and more responsive production systems.

But there is an important distinction between an AI demo and technology you can trust on a live production line. In manufacturing, new technology still has to integrate with existing machinery, operate reliably, deliver measurable value and, importantly, work safely.

That makes controls, automation, data infrastructure and engineering expertise an increasingly important part of the AI conversation. The interesting question for manufacturers heading into 2027 isn't simply: "How can we use AI?" It's: "Where could AI solve a real production problem?"

Preventive or Predictive Maintenance: What’s the Difference? 🤔

Earlier this year, we completed a full controls and safety upgrade on a moulder and oven line for a long-established food ingredients producer. The upgrade helped deliver improved reliability, clearer operator diagnostics, greater energy efficiency and more consistent product quality, while preparing the line for future production demands!

Meet Phil, our Project Manager.

With more than 30 years of engineering and project management experience, Phil plays a key role in ensuring every Control Freaks project is delivered on time, on budget and to the highest standard.

Holding both an Engineering Degree and an MBA, Phil has led major engineering and capital investment projects throughout his career, working with leading manufacturers including Bakkavor, Samworth Brothers, Dairy Crest and PepsiCo before joining the Control Freaks team in 2025.

Today, Phil works closely with our customers from concept through to completion, overseeing project planning, programme management, cost control and communication to ensure every project runs as smoothly as possible.
