FizzBug Share2Learn

FizzBug Share2Learn We have set up FizzBug Share2Learn. Home-schooling is now the norm but many local families do not have the equipment needed to home-school their children.

We are aiming to provide computers / tablets or data to enable children in our community the same opportunity during lockdown and to do our thing to make sure that no child is left behind. FizzBug has been providing care for infant and junior school aged children during holidays, prior to and after school in Harpenden for quite a few years; you may have heard of us or we may have even looked after

one of your children. During these uncertain times, we want to continue to support the local children and the strapline “making sure no child is left behind” deeply resonates with us. Whilst the Department of Education are providing Junior Schools with tablets, a) there’s not enough and b) some households are unable to afford the required data. In addition, some families have just the one device (often a phone) and that could be shared between multiple children of different ages and different needs. Working collaboratively with local infant and junior schools, we will provide local families with any physical equipment (donated via our Face Book page FizzBug Share2Learn) required for this home-schooling period. Money raised here will be used to purchase data and any other equipment we cannot get hold of through donations. Our Face Book page has more details about our loan service, the collection of donated disused devices and how you could support us by donating your time; for example any IT bods who could help struggling families who may get stuck setting up their computer! Many thanks in advance for your support. As a nation we’re all in this together and as a local community, let’s do what we can to help our local children.

It seems a long time ago that we were asking for your support to help raise funds or donate devices, so that children could learn from home. I hope we dont have to see this again!

Incredibly just short of £5000 was raised and nearly 100 devices donated which enabled us to support over 140 children and schools in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, a large majority from Harpenden.

This is our final post but wanted to send a heartfelt ’thank you’ for jumping onboard with us and helping to make children’s lives a little easier.

This letter of 'thanks' really paints the true picture of what children and schools are up against in lockdown.

In just one local school trust, 29 pupils had NO device and NO internet connection; a further 138 children had an internet connection but NO device; and 238 additional children who are accessing all of their learning via a mobile phone (often a parent’s phone). This means that they needed at least 376 devices to ensure that each child was able to access the remote learning on a suitable device. This school still needs 52 devices.

Please share this post, share with your family and friends and lets see if we can get all these children homeschooling. We can pick up any devices and you can also donate to our just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/fizzbug-share2learn?utm_term=PA8NvjN5J Please email [email protected]

WOW and a huge THANK YOU! Through your support we have now managed to donate over 100 devices to enable children to homeschool. A special thank you to local businesses who have jumped onboard and supported this initiative Jarvis Group Ltd cartridgeking.co.uk and Siya from Talk Easy Harpenden. Your devices were delivered to Chantry Primary Academy and The Lea Primary School and Nursery

I thought this would be the end of our 'please help' but today we have been contacted by 2 schools we havent yet helped. They are still desparately short of devices, one school telling us that some families have NO devices at all. They are already 3 weeks behind with learning and being able to connect with the school community is failing.

So please help and keep sharing. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/fizzbug-share2learn?utm_term=vBJ5pbB4G

We have had another incredible week and now raised £4640. THANK YOU

We have collected another 18 devices this week and are out collecting more tomorrow. These will all be delivered to schools on Monday. Thanks to you, this week we have delivered to 3 primary schools in Harpenden and one other in Luton.

But please let's not stop here. You can help in 3 ways, simply spread the word and share, donate to our Just Giving page so that we can purchase further equipment or if you have old laptops or tablets to donate we would be more than happy to collect them!

Have a super, safe weekend and thank you again

We collected another 9 devices today and set to collect another 10 tomorrow. But our funds have now run out. We had a fantastic response over the weekend and had another £700 donated. I can't thank you enough. But as fast as I was ordering new devices and allocating donated ones, more requests were coming in from schools. I feel so grateful that we can help some but feel desperate that so many can not be helped without your support. If you can help please either:-
1) email or message us
2) donate via the page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/fizzbug-share2learn?utm_term=v5zqV22gY
Thank you 🌈

This week has been incredibly busy and on behalf of many schools and families, all of whom have asked me to share their thoughts, THANK YOU ....... this afternoon I dropped off over 30 devices plus 3 new laptops to schools in Luton. The lovely secretary and Head teacher that I met were completely overwhelmed, as was I. It suddenly felt very real and was certainly emotional! In less than a week over 60 children have been supported. 17 new laptops / Chromebooks have also been bought and delivered 🤩

Please let's not stop here. We have requests for more than 40 devices and have now simply run out!

Please please donate, either financially or by offering an old device.
