There's more to these little components than meets the eye. 👀

These transparent mouldings are designed to help guide light through instrument pointers, showing how plastic components can do more than just provide structure - they can play a part in how a finished product looks and functions too.

The circular base is designed to sit over a stepper motor or gauge pin and act as a light pipe/prism, catching light from an internal LED beneath the dial to illuminate the needle blade when turned on.

A good example of what overmoulding can achieve. 👇

Here, a metal tube is placed into the mould before TPE is injected around it, creating a soft-feel grip with the customer’s name incorporated into the finished component.

It's a simple way to combine the strength of metal with the comfort and functionality of a polymer!

Insert moulding offers several key design, structural and manufacturing advantages, particularly when combining metals with polymers.

For this component, the threaded brass insert was placed directly into the injection mould cavity before the plastic is injected around it.

As the resin cures, it encapsulates the insert’s external knurling, creating a high-torque mechanical lock that eliminates secondary assembly steps and ensures maximum pull-out strength. 🙌

The BOY 30A is a compact 30-tonne injection moulding machine, well suited to producing small, precision plastic components.

Its two-platen hydraulic clamping design keeps the machine footprint compact while still providing plenty of access around the mould area.

That makes it a practical machine for the smaller, more technical components we produce at Techniplas. ✅
