Versatility is the hallmark of great design.

For our LinkSpan 120, the goal was to create a vehicle ferry that adapts to the specific needs of its route. Whether it's moving 18 cars or a combination of coaches, cars and passenger traffic, this design balances capacity with efficiency.

Seeing it move from the initial concept sketch to a finished, client-ready proposal has been a fantastic journey for the team.

Walker Marine Design (WMD) have officially launch its highly anticipated WaveForce Crew Boat Range at Seawork 2026 this week. The new generation of high‑performance vessels, spanning 30 to 40 metres length overall, is custom-engineered to meet the rigorous demands of modern offshore operations.

The WaveForce range bridges the gap between high‑speed personnel transfer and heavy‑duty logistics support, offering operators a highly versatile platform capable of excelling in both roles. Designed with a strict focus on reliability, fuel efficiency, and crew welfare, the range reflects WMD’s commitment to delivering robust, future‑ready workboats for the commercial marine sector.

At the heart of the new range is WMD’s proven wave‑piercing hull design. Refined specifically for this series, the hull delivers exceptional seakeeping, significantly reduces slamming, and improves fuel efficiency in challenging open‑water conditions. This next‑generation hull form sets a new benchmark for crew boat performance, ensuring safer, smoother, and more predictable transits in adverse weather.

“WaveForce represents a significant step forward in crew boat capability,” said James Walker, Principal Naval Architect at WMD. “Operators are increasingly looking for vessels that can move personnel quickly and comfortably while simultaneously supporting heavier operational demands and reducing fuel consumption. The WaveForce Class has been engineered from the keel up to meet that exact challenge.”

Seawork 2026 attendees are invited to visit the WMD team on stand G19 to explore the WaveForce design in detail and discuss configuration options tailored to marine construction, port services, fire response and wider commercial applications. Full specifications and technical data are now live on the WMD website alongside the exhibition launch.

In addition to the WaveForce global debut, Walker Marine Design will showcase its comprehensive portfolio of workboat and high‑performance vessel designs throughout the three-day event.

Walker Marine Design (WMD) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the design contract for a new 16 metre pilot boat to be built by Grandweld Shipyards in Dubai. The vessel will operate within ports across the Middle East, supporting safe and efficient pilot transfer operations in one of the world’s most demanding maritime regions.

The Zenith 54 Pilot Boat is based on WMD’s proven wave piercing hull form, a platform widely recognised for its seakeeping, stability, and crew comfort in challenging conditions. The design delivers enhanced performance at speed while reducing vertical accelerations—an essential factor for pilotage operations where reliability and comfort are critical.

Powered by twin Volvo D13 marine engines, the vessel will achieve maximum speeds of 30 knots, ensuring rapid response capability and dependable transit times for port operations.

“We’re delighted to be working with Grandweld Shipyard on this project,” said James Walker, Principle Naval Architect at WMD. “This vessel brings together our latest hull technology with Grandweld’s strong track record in high quality shipbuilding. It’s a partnership that will deliver a highly capable pilot boat tailored for the operational demands of Middle Eastern ports.”

The project reinforces WMD’s growing presence in the international workboat sector and highlights the continued adoption of its wave piercing hull designs across commercial fleets worldwide.

The vessel is due to commence production this summer with completion due in 2027.

Walker Marine Design will be showcasing its full portfolio of workboat and high performance vessel designs at Seawork 2026, 9 – 11 June, Southampton on stand G19.

Check out the brand-new Supa-SWATH CTV MO14 in action!

We’re currently sea trialing this impressive vessel in the Solent to put her through her paces before she heads off to work. Built by Strategic Marine for Mainprize Offshore, she’s number two of six currently in-build over in Singapore.

Of course, we had to dust off the drone to capture her sailing past the Walker Marine Design office in Hamble!
