With humble beginnings in 2018, with the support of Wairarapa Road Saftey, Te Kura o Paetumokai | Featherston School received a grant from Bikes in Schools and SWDC towards implementing a bike track for their students. With more funds and volunteers needed to make this a reality, combined with a shared vision to make cycling accessible to the wider community, a community working group has since be
en working towards a bike track for all our community to use and enjoy. Since 2018 the working group has hosted many fun community events such as the GWRC Bike Rodeo, run competitions, set up design workshops and research opportunities with students, and facilitated wood-working bees. We have also enjoyed working in partnership with organisations and community groups such as the Featherston Sports Hub to strengthen relationships and support each other. In 2019 we received further grants from South Wairarapa Rotary and the DIA through Fab Feathy to realise the implementation of community bike track and bike library. Our community has given their time and support, as well as bicycle donations and equipment. As we near completion of the track, we have started working in partnership with Ā Mua on the bike library, with a bike maintenance and fix up group volunteers that will give bikes to our community. Ngā mihi to our amazing friends, partners and sponsors who without their support none of this would have been possible:
