❄️Preparing for snow❄️
🚗Vehicle preparation checklist🚗
Here is a guide on how to prepare your vehicle and yourself for snowy weather.
Tyres & Traction
❄️ Tread depth: Check your tyre tread. While the legal minimum is 1.6mm, 3mm or more is highly recommended for better grip in snow and ice.
❄️ Pressure: Check and adjust tyre pressure according to your vehicle’s specification (found in the manual or on a sticker inside the driver’s door). Cold weather causes air pressure to drop.
❄️ Winter tyres: If you live in an area with heavy or frequent snow, consider fitting winter tyres.
Fluids & Battery
❄️ Battery: Have your battery checked by a professional. Cold weather reduces battery power, and a weak battery is likely to fail.
❄️ Antifreeze/Coolant: Ensure your coolant is at the correct level and strength to prevent the engine from freezing.
❄️ Washer fluid: Top up your washer reservoir with winter-grade fluid that contains antifreeze.
Visibility:
❄️ Wipers: Inspect and replace worn wiper blades (lift them off the glass over night to prevent the from freezing to the windscreen).
❄️ Lights: Check that ALL headlights, brake lights, and indicators are clean of snow and road dirt.
❄️ Clear the car: Always clear ALL snow and ice from your windscreen, rear window, mirrors, side windows, and rood before driving (carry a ice scraper and de-icer).
By keeping these points in mind, you’ll be as prepared as possible for safe winter travel.
Stay safe of the road everyone! 🌨️
