❄️Preparing for snow❄️
🚗Vehicle preparation checklist🚗
Here is a guide on how to prepare your vehicle and yourself for snowy weather.
Tyres & Traction
❄️ Tread depth: Check your tyre tread. While the legal minimum is 1.6mm, 3mm or more is highly recommended for better grip in snow and ice.
❄️ Pressure: Check and adjust tyre pressure according to your vehicle’s specification (found in the manual or on a sticker inside the driver’s door). Cold weather causes air pressure to drop.
❄️ Winter tyres: If you live in an area with heavy or frequent snow, consider fitting winter tyres.
Fluids & Battery
❄️ Battery: Have your battery checked by a professional. Cold weather reduces battery power, and a weak battery is likely to fail.
❄️ Antifreeze/Coolant: Ensure your coolant is at the correct level and strength to prevent the engine from freezing.
❄️ Washer fluid: Top up your washer reservoir with winter-grade fluid that contains antifreeze.
Visibility:
❄️ Wipers: Inspect and replace worn wiper blades (lift them off the glass over night to prevent the from freezing to the windscreen).
❄️ Lights: Check that ALL headlights, brake lights, and indicators are clean of snow and road dirt.
❄️ Clear the car: Always clear ALL snow and ice from your windscreen, rear window, mirrors, side windows, and rood before driving (carry a ice scraper and de-icer).
By keeping these points in mind, you’ll be as prepared as possible for safe winter travel.
Stay safe of the road everyone! 🌨️

Ever wondered what those dashboard lights mean? 🚗 💡
Here’s a quick guide to help you stay safe and informed on the road.
RED: Indicates there is a serious, potentially dangerous issues – you should when it’s safe get it checked.
YELLOW/ORANGE: Something is wrong that needs to be checked but it’s not as urgent as a red light – take extra care and get it looked at when you can.
GREEN/WHITE/BLUE: The system is working correctly or is correctly in use.
IF A RED LIGHT POPS UP – DON’T IGNORE IT
🔧Engine management light: Signals a problem with the engine or emissions.
🔧Battery warning: Points to a problem with the vehicle’s charging system (Battery, alternator, cables).
🔧Brake warning light: Parking brake light or brake fluid warning light.
🔧Coolant levels warning light: The yellow coolant warning light will come on when coolant levels are running low, to remind you to top them up.
🔧Airbag warning light: Will turn red when at least one element of the airbag safety system is not working correctly.
🔧Power steering warning light: This warning light will come on when there is a problem with the power steering.
🔧Diesel particulate filter warning light: Also known as the DPF or exhaust particulate filter warning light, this yellow symbol affects diesel cars and comes on when the system has become blocked with soot and needs an exhaust repair.
🔧Engine temperature warning light: The red engine light will come on when the engine is overheating. This could mean that coolant levels are running low, perhaps due to a leak in the system.
🔧Oil warning light: The oil warning light comes on when the pressure is too low.
🔧Low tyre pressure warning light: The yellow low tyre pressure warning light will illuminate if a problem is detected with one or more of your vehicle's tyres.
🔧Anti-lock brake system (ABS) warning light: Warning light will come on when there is a fault detected with the system.
🔧Electronic stability problem (ESP) warning light: This car warning light indicates a problem with traction control.
🔧Brake pad warning light: If this symbol shows up it means a sensor has detected your brake pads are worn.

🚗💦 Quick tip from CTB Automotive💦🚗

We see this one a lot - people topping up their washer bottle with washing-up liquid when they run out of screen wash.
Sounds harmless, right? 😅
But trust us... it's not!

Here's what actually happens👇
🧽 It leaves a greasy film on your windscreen that smears when the sun hits.
🚫It can block your washer jets and damage the pump.
❄️It freezes in cold weather and can crack your washer system.
💥And it can even strip wax and damage your paint!

Proper screen wash is made to clean glass, stop it freezing, and protect your car parts - so skip the washing-up liquid and keep your vision crystal clear!👀

Need a top-up? We'll sort it 👍
