CASE STUDY - From years of black mould to a warmer home.

Combe Coatings , a CorkSol approved applicator, have completed an internal SprayCork project in Andover, finished with an overskim of plaster.

Suffering from mould for a number of years, the homeowners were desperate for a long term solution to allow them to live mould free. Combe Coatings offered SprayCork as an internal solution that would insulate the walls, stop condensation and prevent mould growth. Additionally, the cork would stop heat escaping through the external walls, meaning a much warmer property.

The homeowner said, “We’d had black mould in our house for years. No matter what we tried it just kept coming back. The walls always felt cold, and as soon as the heating was on, condensation would appear and the mould would spread again. It felt like a problem we were never going to get rid of.

A 1930s semi-detached home in York had an EPC rating of D, mainly because of its solid brick walls with no cavity to insulate. Cork provided an EPC uplift, but we wanted proof of something the EPC alone can't show: how much heat the home was actually losing, in real time.

That's where independent monitoring came in. Aico/HomeLINK sensors were installed 12 months before treatment with CorkSol SprayCork™, tracking real internal and external temperature data every 15 minutes across 3 rooms, capturing the property's true heat loss, driven by its actual U-value and airtightness, not a desktop estimate.

The results, monitored for 12 months after installation, speak for themselves: Time to Lose 1°C nearly doubled, from 28 minutes to 53 minutes. Heat Loss Risk fell from high in all 3 rooms to medium in 2 and low in 1 with the one particular room seeing a 50%+ improvement in heat dissipation.

This is the real proof behind SprayCork, not a modelled prediction, but measured evidence that the walls are genuinely retaining heat better.

Before anyone touches your home, here is what is worth checking.

Ask how long they have been trained on the specific product they are applying, not just how long they have been in trade. Ask what the warranty actually covers, and who backs it, the installer or the manufacturer. Ask to see photos of finished jobs, ideally more than a year old, not just fresh installations.

A good installer will answer all of this without hesitating. That is often more telling than anything in a quote.
