Not all web enquiries are Sales
This week we were reminded that not every enquiry that comes through our website is about quotes, projects, or turnover.
We were contacted by Karl, whose dad Nick — better known to many as “Swiss Nick” — worked at the original GPE many years ago. Karl simply asked if his dad could come and have a look around our new facility.
Danny, one of our Directors, didn’t hesitate — the invitation was open.
Nick spent time walking around the workshop, reminiscing about the old days down at the slips, the friends and colleagues he worked alongside, and sharing stories from that era — some of which many of us hadn’t heard before. It was a genuine privilege to listen.
Nick left with some metal materials for his hobby, a few new GPE goodies, and most importantly, a smile on his face.
Later that evening, Karl sent the message below — and it genuinely humbled everyone here at GPE:
“Hi Danny
I just wanted to express my thanks and appreciation; to you for taking the time out, welcoming Dad into your workshop today.
He didn’t stop talking on the way home, with memories and recollections being triggered. And the metals you cut for him he’s delighted with.
You made an Old Man really happy today; and gave him something to smile about.
For which I will always be grateful.
So Thankyou; hugely appreciated & I hope business continues to thrive
Best wishes
Karl”
Moments like this remind us that engineering isn’t just about steel, pipework, or production — it’s about people, history, and pride in where we’ve come from.
Not all web enquiries are sales…
Some are far more important.
