What have STOLZ been Working On? - Project Handover Support

STOLZ has been supporting clients with the handover of Instrumentation, Control and Functional Safety projects from project teams into site Maintenance and Operations teams.

➡️ Our involvement includes reviewing completed project scopes, identifying outstanding engineering and documentation requirements, and confirming that applicable site and corporate engineering standards have been satisfied.

➡️ For projects with a Functional Safety impact, this also includes ensuring the appropriate lifecycle activities and documentation have been completed and correctly transitioned into the operational phase.

➡️ The projects cover a diverse range of plant and equipment, including storage tanks, compressors, pumps, process vessels, analysers, gas detection, instrumentation and associated control and shutdown systems.

➡️ The engineering itself ranges from individual instrument and control system modifications through to larger projects involving tank level detection, wireless instrumentation and Safety Instrumented Systems.

What have STOLZ been up to? – Functional Safety Lifecycle Support

STOLZ has been supporting a major Oil & Gas operator with Functional Safety engineering associated with redundant pump sets and compressor systems across an operational site.
⠀
🔍 New Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and their required SILs were identified through the site's periodic HAZOP and LOPA process, providing the basis for the next stages of Functional Safety engineering.
⠀
💻 Using our own Functional Safety software suite, STOLZ has been developing the Functional Safety Management Plans (FSMPs), SIL verification calculations and Safety Requirements Specifications (SRSs), providing a consistent and structured approach across the lifecycle.
⠀
📋 Our work has also included developing proof test procedures and other supporting Functional Safety documentation required to take the new SIFs through the lifecycle and into operation.

🔄 Functional Safety doesn't end with HAZOP, LOPA or achieving the required SIL on paper. The requirements need to be correctly translated into design, documentation, testing, operation and ongoing maintenance.

What have STOLZ been up to? – Brownfield I&C Engineering

STOLZ has been supporting clients with a range of Instrumentation and Control engineering activities across existing operational process plants.

⚙️ Recent work has covered a broad mix of I&C engineering work on: storage tanks, pumps, compressors, process vessels, analysers, gas detection systems and associated control and shutdown systems.

Our involvement has included instrumentation replacements and upgrades, control valve and MOV modifications, PLC and control system changes, wireless instrumentation and modifications affecting Safety Instrumented Systems.

🔍 Brownfield engineering brings its own challenges. Existing equipment, legacy documentation, operational constraints and interfaces with established systems all need to be understood before a modification can be successfully implemented.

🤝 Working closely with site Engineering, Maintenance and Operations teams allows STOLZ to develop practical solutions that consider not only the technical design, but how the modification will be installed, commissioned, maintained and operated.

What have STOLZ been up to? – FEED & Functional Safety Support

STOLZ has been supporting a client with a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study for the upgrade of an existing control and safety system.
⠀
Our role has included providing Functional Safety consultancy throughout the FEED, helping ensure the proposed upgrade considers the appropriate Functional Safety lifecycle requirements and applicable site, corporate and industry standards.

🔍 Working with the wider project team, we've been reviewing the existing installation, understanding the required functionality and identifying the Instrumentation, Control and Functional Safety requirements that need to be carried forward into the upgrade.
⠀
📋 STOLZ has also been developing the technical tender documentation for the control and safety system upgrade, translating the FEED requirements into a defined scope that can be issued to prospective system suppliers.
⠀
🔄 Getting these requirements right during FEED provides a strong foundation for the later project phases, helping reduce ambiguity, manage technical risk and ensure Functional Safety requirements are considered before detailed design begins.

🤝 This type of support allows STOLZ to work alongside client and project teams as an independent I&C and Functional Safety engineering resource, from early concept and FEED through to detailed design, implementation and commissioning.

Neal completed the Lifetime Fitness Impossible Mile last weekend in support of the fantastic Sunflower Children's Action Group.

It was a tough but enjoyable challenge, made even more worthwhile knowing it was helping to raise funds for such an important local charity that supports children and families across our community.

A big thank you to everyone who organised, took part, donated and cheered us on throughout the event.
