When one of our customers reached out in urgent need of a hot water solution, McDonald Water Storage delivered – literally.

Within just two hours of their initial call, a 210-litre POWERflow unvented cylinder was prepped, ordered, and collected for same-day installation at a popular bistro in South Queensferry.

Faced with a tight deadline and operational pressure, our customer knew they could rely on us for a fast, high-quality response. The unit was ready to go thanks to our on-site production and flexible approach to urgent requirements, ensuring minimal disruption to the bistro’s day-to-day service.

The University of Essex maintenance team selected the PLATEflow system to overcome the issues associated with point of use water heaters.

The decision to transition to a new hot water supply system within one of the University’s teaching blocks was driven by ongoing issues with the existing setup, which relied on 18 individual point-of-use water heaters.

The maintenance team removed the point of use heaters and installed a hot water return around the building. This reduced maintenance considerably and gave them a single point of control for the whole building. They also incorporated this into their Trend BMS system allowing them to monitor and adjust remotely.

Sam Merritt, Technical Manager at University of Essex said “The 18 point-of-use water heaters installed across various locations had become increasingly time-consuming to maintain, with many units failing and creating challenges for replacement due to their positioning.”

The unique design of the CUBEflow Thermal Store not only provided a homeowner with improved hot water performance but also a space saving solution.

Sandhurst Plumbing & Maintenance were contacted by a new client in Soho, who came to them through a recommendation from another one of their satisfied customers. The client had been experiencing persistent problems with their existing hot water cylinder, including poor water pressure and inconsistent temperature, and asked us to provide a modern, reliable replacement.

One of their engineers attended site to assess the installation and discuss options with the client. They had received a quotation from another company to install an unvented hot water cylinder however, this was not suitable for their property. The presence of a plastic overflow pipe meant that an unvented installation would not comply with Building Regulations Part G3.

This is a common mistake made by some installers, especially in apartment applications.

In addition, the restricted cupboard dimensions created further challenges that required a tailored solution which could not be met by a traditional cylinder.

Having worked with McDonald Water Storage for many years, Sandhurst Plumbing knew they could provide the right product to meet these requirements. They specified and installed a 150-litre Electric Thermal Store CUBEflow Coral E – a compact unit designed to deliver mains-pressure hot water within limited spaces, while remaining fully compliant with regulations.

The thermal store system allowed the property to remain open-vented, while still providing excellent water pressure and a consistent supply of hot water. To complete the installation, the installers replaced the outdated timer, ensuring their client had full and efficient control over their new system.
