This year Malin held our annual Summer Challenge – this time focusing on !
The aim was to design, and 3D print a self-righting buoy, that could be capsized and return to its upright position. The buoys had to be at least 170mm tall and be able to fit in a 200mm square box; the print had to be undertaken in PLA and no spherical or near spherical buoys were allowed. Participants were however permitted to decorate their buoy post print, so long as the decoration did not provide a performance enhancement through improving the structure.
Entries were judged upon weight, appearance/creativity, floatation ability, self-righting ability and, the drop test. 26 employees submitted entries, with some very creative, inventive and effective entries, so a big well done to all who took part!
A fun, focused task that underlined the importance of , value of rapid , and of course, collaborating across teams!
