Successful scuttling of MV Shingle in Killala Bay on the West coast of Ireland yesterday. Many of our clients were involved in the process and a "well done" is required for all involved getting through the legislative and technical challenges over many years. Hopefully she will prove to be an ecological and leisure dive boost for the bay and surrounding area.

It took 1½ hours for the rusting hulk of the vessel to reach the seabed

Realisation of a project developed by Marine Design International in conjunction with the client Atlantic Towage and Marine.

The concept is developed from our joint knowledge of nearshore installation requirements and logistics aiming to deliver increased capability and efficiencies by providing the right tool to contractors.

The significant custom engineering was developed with the builders, Mooney Boats Ltd, who have delivered several MDI aluminium vessels in the past. Sea trials were great fun but unfortunately she is a working boat and must leave immediately for her first cable landing.

A massive thanks to Sean Harrington and his team at Atlantic Towage and Marine for trusting us to design his vision for the industry.

Today the team had a great day on the water with a bit of sailing and watching the 8mR World Cup. So good to have colleagues you can enjoy a fun day out with and a quick reminder that boats can exist outwith the computer.

It's been a tough wee while for "Fulmar" getting her back into Rating but all done with half a day to spare. Well done and good luck from MDI. Boats are all here and couple of shots of "Fulmar" and "Saskia" out on practice this afternoon.

Exciting subject of liferaft servicing. The MCA notice MGN 548https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5e7b833ce90e0706f8976ca3/MGN_548.pdf updates the service requirements of SOLAS certified LSA's. This changes where and how often your LSA needs to be serviced. Lifefafts must be sent to an approved service centre every 12 months irrespective of the next inspection date on the raft. Vessels will not pass survey if the raft has not been serviced within the previous 12 months. Additionally for workboat owners, in preparation for WC Ed3 compliance the certificates should be sent to your code surveyor. Non-SOLAS rafts must be serviced as MGN 553. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mgn-553-amendment-1mf-inflatable-non-solas-liferafts-and-life-saving-appliances/mgn-553-amendment-1-annex-1
