What do the numbers on your TRV actually mean? 🌡️

Whacking your radiator valve up to max won’t heat your room any faster, it just means the valve will stay open until the room reaches a much higher temperature. Heat transfer happens at a consistent rate.

The TRV (Thermostatic Radiator Valve) simply regulates the radiator flow based on your chosen setting.
For example, * = (6°C), for frost protection, while settings 1–4 range from 15°C to 22°C. It's unlikely anyone is _actually_ wanting their office to reach 30 degrees and it's even less likely it will reach that in winter!

Once your room reaches the set temperature, the valve automatically closes, saving energy and keeping you comfortable.

As cooler weather approaches, many hands start fiddling with thermostats, but small, steady adjustments are the key to comfort and efficiency.

Meet Dan - Founder of Luths Services

Dan started Luths back in 2016 to help people design buildings that are kinder to the planet.

Climate week is a good time to reflect on why we do what we do.

For Dan, starting his own practice meant raising awareness of renewables, offering the most sustainable options so clients have all the choices available to them.

It's always been about practical steps, making heat pumps work well in real homes or retrofitting to preserve Scottish heritage sites.

He's happiest being the scenes or directly on site, making sure every project moves us a little closer to a low carbon future.

This week we celebrate Scotland's Climate Week.

Climate action is happening all across Scotland with this week acting as a reminder if the collective action needed to reach net zero.

The building sector has a huge part to play as it accounts for roughly 20% of emissions in Scotland. This means we need to cut by 68% for Net Zero Targets.

At Luths we are passionate about playing our part by deliveri sustainable, data driver engineering solutions that reduce carbon, improve efficiency and support resilient Scottish buildings.
