We were recently delighted to welcome MBA students from the University of Strathclyde to our site, hosted by James Tangney, our Business Development Manager, who is currently studying on the course himself.
The group were extremely positive about their visit and the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of our operations.
Some of the feedback gathered from the visit included:
“At the Alvance British Aluminium factory, I witnessed operations management in a tangible, physical form. Seeing how production workflows, quality control, and workforce coordination function on the factory floor deepened my understanding of the Hayes and Wheelwright framework
- particularly how operational capability must align with long-term strategic positioning. The facility also prompted reflection on sustainability, as aluminium recycling is central to modern ESG commitments.
The hydroelectric plant offered a contrasting perspective. Here, the investment horizon stretches across decades, and decisions made today yield returns long into the future. This connected directly to our macroeconomics and financial strategy modules, reinforcing how infrastructure industries balance capital intensity with public and environmental stakeholder expectations.”
“The most interesting part of the trip was the aluminium factory visit. I was impressed by its efficient operations and commitment to sustainability through the use of hydroelectric power, demonstrating how business success and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.”
“I found the business visits, particularly Alvance British Aluminium, most interesting because they provided practical insights into operations, leadership, sustainability, and strategic management in real-world business environments.”
“Alvance British Aluminium changed my thoughts about the diversity of core capabilities a business can have.”
Thank you to the students for visiting us. We wish you every success on your studies. 🎓
