A testing result is only as reliable as the methodology behind it.
On a ~35 million L water storage tank project in South Australia, previous testing reported zero defects.

Independent testing using the Buckleys Geo Pro2 identified 39 leak paths across the installed liner system.

The difference came down to one critical factor:
Incorrect earthing methodology.

This project demonstrates why correct setup, operator competency and understanding conductive pathways are essential for achieving valid, reliable testing results.

Using the Geo Pro2, GeoQ successfully:
✅ Identified and verified all defects
✅ Confirmed liner integrity prior to commissioning

We’d like to thank GeoQ for the significant amount of work, technical detail and collaboration that went into this series of content. As Australia’s leading independent provider of CQA and electrical leak detection services for geosynthetic installations, their insight and field experience have helped create genuinely valuable technical resources for the industry.

Read the full case study to see how incorrect testing methodology led to a false negative - and what every technician should learn from it.

The Geomembrane Arc Testing System you invest in will directly influence the quality, reliability, and commercial outcome of your work for years to come.

Poor equipment selection can result in inaccurate testing, membrane damage, downtime, project delays, rework, and loss of confidence from engineers and asset owners. That is why every performance claim should be investigated thoroughly and supported with verifiable evidence from real-world use – BEFORE investing.

When evaluating an arc testing system, ask suppliers for more than brochures, sales talk and feature lists.

Ask for:

🔍Real-world project evidence
🔍 Proven performance on live sites
🔍Standards compliance
🔍Technical justification
🔍Long-term user feedback
🔍Demonstrations under real conditions
🔍Feedback from experienced technicians actively using the system

Because on-site, the consequences of poor performance are real:

📑Downtime stops revenue
📑Incorrect voltage can damage membrane
📑Inconsistent results damage credibility with engineers and asset owners

That’s why we created this free technical checklist:
“What Questions Should You Ask Before Investing in a Geomembrane Arc Testing System?”

It is designed to help installers, inspectors, and testing companies evaluate suppliers based on verifiable evidence - not claims.

Years of geomembrane testing experience can reveal a lot about how risk is identified, managed, and reduced in the field.

In our latest interview, we speak with Nick Morris, who shares practical insight gained from testing more than 2 million m² of geomembrane systems in the last year alone.

The discussion explores the realities of field testing, common challenges faced on site, and why dependable QA/QC processes remain critical for long-term containment performance.

As geomembrane systems continue to play a critical role across environmental and infrastructure projects, understanding how experienced contractors identify, reduce, and manage risk has never been more important.

Whether you’re involved in installation, specification, QA/QC, or environmental containment, there are practical lessons here worth reading.

📌New Case Study (with GeoQ, Australia):

🔍If Geomembrane integrity is ONLY being confirmed at commissioning, it’s already too late.

GeoQ, acting as an independent third-party provider, completed ELD testing on a landfill cell in Queensland (~22,000 m² over 4 days) using the Buckleys Geo Pro2 Geomembrane Arc Testing Kit.

The objective:
Verify liner integrity before it becomes inaccessible.

What was found:
✅17 leak paths identified at exposed liner stage
✅All defects repaired and validated before cover placement
✅Post-installation verification found zero residual installation defects

Why this matters (commercially):
No excavation of aggregate to chase install defects
No late-stage rework
No programme delays at commissioning

Early-stage arc testing removed installation risk before it became a cost problem.

How it was achieved:
✅Controlled voltage range: 12.5 - 13.4 kV
✅Adjustments at welds and tie-ins
✅Full surface coverage using roller + brush electrodes

No membrane damage. No guesswork. No rework.

For testing contractors and inspectors:
You already know - downtime and rework don’t show up in proposals.
They show up in margin.

If you’re reviewing your testing approach, this is worth a read.

Last week our team spent the day at Oceanology International in London. It was great to catch up with so many familiar faces from across the subsea community, including our distributor, Unique Group.

We took the opportunity to stop at their stand and spend a bit of time catching up in person - something that doesn’t happen often enough in our busy industry.

All in all - a great day out and reminder of how connected the subsea community really is.⚓
