You can spot a rushed window install from the pavement: ragged plaster lines and sealant doing the work a trim should do. The finishing package is a small line on the order, but it carries the visual weight of the whole job.

What to carry through the summer install season: window boards with endcaps, architraves, rigid angle for true reveals, and flexible angle for the older properties where nothing is square. Bring a frame offcut to the counter and we will colour match foiled trims against stock before you order.

Freefoam trims in white, anthracite, black ash, rosewood, and light oak at both branches, matched to the fascia and cladding lines.

One misted pane does not mean a new window. A replacement sealed unit, cut to size, drops into the existing frame and restores the window for a fraction of the cost.

Measuring is the whole job: width, height, and unit thickness (both panes plus the spacer, usually 24 mm or 28 mm). Note the spacer colour, check for obscure patterns, and remember toughened glass for doors and anything below 800 mm from the floor.

We cut glass to size at both branches: double and triple glazed units, toughened and laminated safety glass, mirrors, and kitchen splashbacks. Bring your sizes to the counter and we will quote on the spot.

Loft ventilation is a summer job, not a winter panic. Fit new fascia and soffits without a vent path and the loft seals up tight. Warm air from the house rises, hits cold felt, and by October the insulation is damp.

The fix is simple while the scaffold is up: continuous soffit vents or an over fascia vent strip at the eaves, felt support trays behind the gutter, and a clear 50 mm gap above the insulation. Air in at the eaves, out at the ridge.

We stock the full ventilation range at Flint and Saltney, matched to the same Freefoam fascia and soffit lines, so one order covers the whole roofline. Saturday opening 8:30 to 11:30 for weekend pick-ups.

Gutter season is now. Summer storms are short, heavy and unforgiving, and the properties that flood the wall in August are the ones that did not get inspected in May.

Trade reminder for the rounds this month:
— Bracket spacing 900 mm to 1 m, tighter at corners.
— Fall set with a chalk line, not by eye — 1:600 minimum.
— Check the below-ground drain on overflow callbacks — most are not in the gutter.
— Match colour at the counter before ordering anthracite top-ups.

Full Freefoam range in stock at both branches. Same colours as the fascia and soffit lines, so the property reads consistent. Saturday 8:30–11:30 if you finish late on a Friday and need extras for Monday.

Tired conservatory? Warm roof retrofit is the answer most customers do not realise exists.

A warm roof replaces the polycarbonate or glass with a fully insulated, solid structure — slate or tile finish, plastered ceiling underneath. The frame, the dwarf walls, the windows and doors all stay. The room turns from greenhouse to extension overnight.

Two install details decide if it works long-term: continuous vapour control on the warm side of the insulation and proper eaves and ridge ventilation. Get those right and the room performs for 25+ years.

Kits and the surrounding fascia, soffit and gutter trims are held at both branches. Talk to us early — June and July slots fill quickly.

Composite decking, properly installed, lasts 20+ years. Done in a rush on the wrong substructure and it does not see out three summers. The work is in the prep.

Quick trade reminder for May projects:
— Joists at 300–400 mm centres for residential, tighter for stairs.
— 4–6 mm expansion gap at board ends.
— Stainless steel fixings within a few miles of the coast.
— 25 mm minimum airflow under the deck.

Full range of boards, joists, hidden clip systems and fascia trims in stock at Flint and Saltney. Samples on the counter — bring the customer in for a look.

Roofline season is here. The dry weather between now and August is when most fascia, soffit and gutter replacements get done across North Wales and Cheshire — and there is a reason for it. Wet boards hide rot, dry boards do not.

Our trade counter advice for this month: lift a section of the existing fascia before you quote a cap-over. If the timber is sound, capping works fine. If the rafter feet have softened, go for full replacement and save yourself the callback.
