Last week, our Assistant Civil Engineer, Oliver Goody, travelled to Latvia with fellow UWE Bristol students to present his dissertation to industry professionals at the Ratsif TSI Conference. The event brings together young researchers from Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) and other institutions to share ideas, spark collaboration and tackle future challenges through innovative research.

As Oliver said: “It was inspiring to see projects ranging from AI applications to generating electricity from human waste, alongside a tour of TSI University’s engineering facilities. Sharing my research and discussing real-world AI solutions with other engineers made it a fantastic experience, and I’m excited to continue this journey in engineering and research.”

Oliver started his journey with JRC as a Civil Engineering Apprentice, and we’re incredibly proud to see how far he has come through his hard work and dedication.

In just under two weeks, our Senior Technician, Callum, will be taking on the London Marathon (for the second time!) in support of The National Brain Appeal.

This incredible charity helps fund The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, collectively known as Queen Square. Queen Square is one of the world’s leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with neurological and neuromuscular conditions, including stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

We’re incredibly proud of Callum for taking on this challenge once again and fully support him as he raises money for such an important cause.

With it being National Apprenticeship Week 2026, it’s only right for us to shine a light on our very own fantastic group of apprentices. Each of them are working incredibly hard to achieve their qualifications through either college or university whilst gaining valuable hands-on experience in the industry. At JRC we are big believers in learning on the job and nurturing home-grown talent, which is why we pride ourselves in helping our apprentices to build long term careers and support their progress throughout each stage. We recently caught up with our apprentices to gain some insight into their apprenticeships and their achievements so far with us. Well done guys! 👏

Award winning project! 🌟

We are extremely proud to announce that a project we have been involved with alongside Peregrine Mears Architects has won an award for Best Non-Residential Extension, Alteration or Conversion under the LABC South West Winners and Highly Commended 2025.

JRC designed a surface water SuDS (Sustainable Drainage System) scheme for Northway Court featuring an attenuation basin to manage surface water runoff effectively and reduce flood risk in the area.

By integrating natural drainage principles, we created a solution that not only meets regulatory requirements but also enhances local biodiversity and landscape value.

A huge congratulations to our civil engineers as well as the rest of the project team (Palmer Birch, The Holiday Property Bond, Con-Serv Ltd, Gates Consultants) involved with Northway Court. Together we have achieved this fantastic result! 🎉

Our Apprentices Liam and Theo have been busy behind the scenes as they volunteered to run our stand at the Exeter College Apprenticeship Expo Event last Thursday during 🎉

This fantastic careers event brought us together with over 50 companies across the South West from a varied range of sectors, yet our visions remained the same: to inspire and encourage students to consider Apprenticeship opportunities within the region. Liam and Theo were able to chat to many enthusiastic students and offer first hand insight into Civil Engineering Apprenticeships and what its like to be apart of JRC.

A big thank you to the students for showing such interest in an Apprenticeship with us, and to Exeter College for hosting and even taking this snap for us 📸 A very successful day out of the office for Liam and Theo, thank you and well done for all your hard work guys! 👏 😊

And just like that, we're celebrating our 9 Year Anniversary as JRC Consulting Engineers Ltd! 🎉

Founded in 2016 by our Director John Curtis, JRC occupied a single room in a shared office space. Fast forward 9 years and our company has experienced remarkable growth; today we proudly operate across four offices in Exeter, Bideford, Plymouth and our newest addition in Bristol (keep your eyes peeled for the official announcement of our latest office) 🙌

We are so proud of the journey we've embarked on over the past 9 years, the successes we've had so far are a testament to the hard work, dedication and expertise of our growing JRC team. We continue to remain committed to providing exceptional engineering solutions to our clients and communities for many years to come. Festivities have been in full swing over here at JRC! This year's Annual Christmas Social saw the team at Exeter Racecourse for the 'Festive Race Day' 🏇 It definitely got everyone in the festive spirit for sure! 🎅🏼🎄

The team enjoyed a well-deserved day out of the office with a brilliant view over the racecourse from our hospitality box, and endulged in a fantastic 3-course meal all thanks to the Hospitality Team at Exeter Races. We'd like to say a huge thank you to Exeter Racecourse for being wonderful hosts and helping us to celebrate in style 🙌🏼

Whilst we were able to celebrate Christmas early, it was also an opportunity to celebrate this year's achievements and the incredible hard work of our team. It has been a significant year for our company with various expansions and the big move into our Exeter Head Office, and so this was our perfect opportunity to reflect and share our gratitude with our team.
