At Swansea University’s Bay Campus, an artificial dune was created to shield the site from tidal surges, but the project went far beyond erosion control.

To safeguard this vital landscape, Eromat™ C‑100‑P was chosen for its lightweight strength, and its ability to create the right conditions for long‑term ecological success.

Supporting the rare Sea Stock (Matthiola sinuata), a species once thought extinct in Wales and rediscovered in the nearby Crymlyn Burrows SSSI.

Using Eromat™ as a protective layer, Sea Stock was cultivated off‑site and plug‑planted directly into the matting, giving the young plants the stability they needed to establish and thrive. As the coir within the matting naturally breaks down, it continues to enrich the soil, supporting the dune ecosystem long after installation.

This project shows how smart erosion control can work hand‑in‑hand with biodiversity goals, protecting coastlines while helping rare species thrive once again.

🌿 Steep Embankment Protection at Donside, Aberdeen

We’re looking back at a standout project where our Geoweb® Slope Protection System played a crucial role in stabilising a challenging embankment along the River Don.

Working with the main contractor, Greenfix were tasked with providing a solution that would allow topsoil to be held in place on the steep slope.

During design discussions, Greenfix proposed a more efficient solution: replacing the originally planned two stacked layers with a single 300mm Geoweb layer. This adjustment delivered a significant labour saving while maintaining the required performance.

To secure the Geoweb system, Atra® Tendons and Tendon Clips were used. These devices lock through the Geoweb I‑Slots® to safely transfer gravitational forces. The Atra Tendons and Tendon Clips can be pre‑assembled, reducing time spent on steep slopes and improving on‑site safety.

Greenfix supported the installation with a tailored pinning pattern and on‑site guidance. In total, 4,000m² of Geoweb was installed in the spring, with the slope fully vegetated by the following summer.

A great example of how smart design, collaboration, and the right system can deliver long‑term, sustainable slope stability.
