Chevron B8 floor panels fitted with/for .

These were carefully test fitted using skin pins to make sure all the holes lined up, then a two part adhesive was used to bond them and 1500 rivets later the panels were permanently fitted.

This was a time consuming process, not only to fit them but being extra careful the aluminium wasn't marked and any excess adhesive was removed for a nice and clean finish.

Chevron B8 aluminium floor panels for (Savage AutoRespairs 🤓)

Working with Alec, the floor panels were replicated using the originals as a template. These were made from 16g 5251 aluminium, the same grade as originally used in the 1960's.
The area's that are riveted were also bonded, these surfaces needed to be carefully "keyed" to allow the bonding adhesive something to stick to.

Alfa Romeo Stepnose for

With the panels going on after a bit of faffing to get everything lined up and the panel gaps even, everything was scribed, cut, clamped, and tacked into position before being fully tig welded.

Alfa Romeo Stepnose progress

The Jigsaw puzzle began with what panels needed to be removed, replaced and in which order. All the panels coming from , probably the best quality replacement panels I've worked with.

Follow on the the last post, the Alfa Romeo Stepnose

After a few measurements were taken to compare sides, this showed the nearside was like a banana. A porta power was used to get things as close as possible, even a the A-pillars needed pushing back parallel to each other.
Once all this was done the shell needed bracing before any cutting commenced, making the braces symmetrical ensured that the shell was pushed/pulled back to where it needed to be.

A late follow up (only two months) on the Alfa Romeo GTV6 Touring Car Inlet Runners.

A flexible pattern was made from the wooden buck (previous post), this was transferred to the aluminium sheet. The aluminium sheet was then roughed out on a sand bag, and smoothed on the little English wheel.
These were then trimmed to shape and rolled around the wooden buck and tacked together.
Once I was happy with the fit up the runners were placed into the jig/Fixture making sure the orientation was correct to the base.
Theses were then fully tig welded, and then all welds were cleaned back smooth (inside and out).
The final bit to do was bead the ends.

Follow up on the Alfa Romeo GTV6 Touring Car Inlet Runners,

A cutting fixture was made so that each runner could be put in the band saw and chopped to the same length and orientation.

The top half of the base was filed out to the largest dimension, while the lower half will be opened out to match the ports in the head by the engine builder.

A Fixture/Jig was made to so that each fabricated part lined up to the correct orientation.

From this Fixture a wooden buck was made, with the correct curve, taper and orientation needed to form the fabricated runners.

Alfa Romeo GTV6 Touring Car Inlet Runners,

The plan was to use the original bases, which will be opened up by the engine builder to match the ports in the head, And to enlarge the tops of the runners as much as possible (from 34mm to 50mm) while staying in between the stock fuel rails.

To achieve this a Jig/Fixture was needed, a wooden buck, flexible pattern, Hammer forming, engish wheeling, bead rolling and tig welding.
